    Skid plate

Purchased the FE skid plates. My mechanic charged $54 to install. My total cost was $690. The plastic skid section that was removed is more substantial than I expected. The two standard skid sections are not trivial, and I don't feel that the better FE plates are a must have. Many places in...

    Toyota Dealership Foolery

The Toyota maintenance intervals are now based on leasing and warranty, not optimal engine break-in. I'm not sure why I care, as I've never kept a vehicle to 100K miles. But it bothers me to run measurable elevated metal levels for 5000 miles. Lower mileage drivers who live in areas that have...

    Toyota App?

    Traffic Jam Assist

Cars can now act faster and more reliably than you can. But I agree that the complexity of use is ridiculous.

To Wrap or Not to wrap

I would only wrap to change the look. The economics of wrapping for protection are poor. I saw a stealth wrap on the blue and it looked great

    Transmission Overheating - anyone else?

The water pump is belt driven, correct? Low range may simple provide higher revs and more flow across the transmission cooler. I would like the center diff on dirt if that surface seems more problematic and select a manual gear that keeps revs up somewhat in high range. Also, Sport Mode may...

    Transmission Overheating - anyone else?

He should be able to drive as described without the transmission overheating. He should be able to tow a 6000lb trailer on the uphill route without a problem, assuming outside temps are not unusually hot. A photo of the code/warning should be enough for the tech to begin investigating the problem.

    Snorkel on the Land Cruiser?

basing it mostly on the comments of the Dissent Offroad build. He said that the rear diff breather was on top of the diff and it should be plumbed to the engine compartment with the ARB kit or similar

    Snorkel on the Land Cruiser?

The rear diff is apparently the only one that needs a breather run higher.

    FULL-sized spare?

The two models are the same base vehicle. About a 33 1/4 spare will fit underneath. The vehicles are delivered with tire that are about 32 1/2 diameter.

    Constant Power for USB-C?

It would be very easy to add a USB-C port at the battery in the back. But the starting battery is small so you would likely be better off with using a house battery. In particular a power bank. The existing USB C ports are only 15W.

    FULL-sized spare?

yes. I doubt that the 2025 4runner is different

    Lockers and Disconnects

Central diff essentially changes the vehicle from AWD to 4WD. Anyone with a previous 4WD vehicle may be most comfortable with this explanation. You don't engage 4WD on pavement with good traction. You don't engage 4WD just because the pavement is wet. I thought a locked center diff unlocked at...

    Lockers and Disconnects

You can leave brake hold on all the time and it will allow the driver to remove the foot from the brake after the vehicle is stopped for about two second. Touching the accelerator releases the brake, but the system is still on. Brake hold essentially eliminates creep.

    Suggest a Dashcam?

I've had the fitcamx installed. Same fitment concerns as others have expressed here, but hopefully it won't fall down. App and picture quality is as expected.

    Recovery Points

Sure, but technically a recovery rope would be ruined because it was stressed at a single point.

    Recovery Points

This is the bridle I selected. It is least expensive name brand item I found. Be aware that the tow points on the vehicle are attached with only one bolt, which means these points are likely designed to fail at excessive loads. A bridle not only halves the load, but balances the forces on the...

Given @kdirks post above I think it's unlikely that the Lexus tank will work on our hybrid.

Land Cruiser vs 2025 Nissan Armada/Patrol

Looks like a Hyundai. LC 250 looks like a truck. I'm not a fan of the 200 or 300 series looks either. I'm a fan of the older FJ lines and the 250. I do think avoiding the hybrid is a plus. Fortunately the build quality of the LC250 is superb. I will say that people unsure what to buy or...

What are your thoughts on The new Armada Pro-4X (Patrol)

That was my preferred config. I settled for underground/java. I really like the brown interior. I also appreciate that underground is an non-metallic. Underground, sand and possibly white are the colors that are arguably best for vehicles that will get pin stripping and other minor abuses.

Torn - Discounted 1958 (under MSRP) or LC trim

Many Toyota dealers will not sell out of area as it apparently may affect their future vehicle allocation. However Toyota has various ancient distribution agreements that likely vary by region, so its worth investigating.

Torn - Discounted 1958 (under MSRP) or LC trim

Eventually there will likely be an aftermarket sway bar disconnect for the 1958. Or it could be added with Toyota parts. One downside of this new model is lack of both aftermarket support and general knowledge of the vehicle. We don't even know if a winch can be powered by an existing circuit...
