    Real World mpg

Respectfully disagree. I spent the first part of my career helping refineries around the world safely and efficiently make gas and diesel. There are lots of filling stations, but only so many refineries. Local stations get their fuel supplies from the same handful of regional refineries...

Oil and Filter Change, easy peasy.

100% agree with EOD Guy. Those first miles are all about properly seating the piston rings and achieving max compression. Before that happens the engine will experience more gas blowby than any other time in its useful life, meaning combusted gases mix with the oil. Nothing to worry about.

    SOUTHEAST TOYOTA DISTRIBUTORS, LLC

Just another layer between the manufacturer and the buyer to take more of your money, as if dealers weren't enough. $$$$

    2025 4Runner tease

4Runner will no doubt be a great vehicle. After comparing specs between a 4R and LC², we switched our deposit from the LC² to the 4Runner...for about a week. We stopped by the dealership to check on things and my wife sat in a new Tacoma. Her literal words: "I'm going to be sad if the 4Runner...

    Is this really worth $6,000?

Worth it to me, but like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder. Each person has to judge for themselves. Just as a little price check, a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon disconnecting sway bar...just the sway bar part purchased separately, and not including all the other stuff like the electronic...

    Hybrid batter Water exposure

Toyota isn't new to hybrid batteries, so I'm betting they have this figured out. Submarines are battery electric. The key is how the batteries are sealed and how they breathe. Given Toyota's deep experience and industry-leading hybrid experience, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt...

Ceramic Coating a rip-off? How about PPF?

PPF has changed over the years. The material now has self-healing capabilities for swirls and minor scratches, and I haven't seen the modern materials crack or yellow. This fall I'll hit 10 years on our Outback with 3M self-healing PPF installed, and while it doesn't look new, there's no...

    Rust on new Land Cruiser

I appreciate this thread. Thanks OP. I'll just apply a little Surface Shield to the exposed metal and call it a day.

    New Owner in Colorado

If you watch the video at 21:40, you'll see a white LC at the dealership where they sold their Tacoma. That LC happened to be their reserved LC, but they turned it down. The dealership isn't far from the OP.

Congrats. Super happy for you. Did you happen to buy the TFL one (see at 21:40) at 21:40

Ceramic Coating a rip-off? How about PPF?

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering how much a full body wrap would cost. PPF would save the paint from desert pin striping, a common occurrence on many trails, and while it's pricey it's also a lot less expensive than a new factory-level finish. Xpel Stealth is top of the line, too. A...

Ceramic Coating a rip-off? How about PPF?

Good to hear the foam strips are more gentle. I hope you'll keep us updated on how your finish ages over time with that method. Love Rexburg, BTW. My wife and I recently stopped by for a picnic on the temple grounds during our drive home to Utah from Island Park. Great town.

Suggestion: Complete a break-in oil change on your new Land Cruiser

Great videos and even better concept of an early first oil change. We'll follow the 1K/5K/5K plan. I've never been brand loyal when it comes to oil, but the new Valvoline Restore and Protect has me sold.

Ceramic Coating a rip-off? How about PPF?

I don't consider them rip offs and will never purchase a new car without installing them both. PPF protects against sand and stones. Maybe even the occasional brush with a post, or wall, or something like that. My oldest vehicle is a 2015 with 115,000 miles that my college daughter inherited...

Newbie advice for taking care of car

Regarding the oil filters, I saw an engineering-level comparison of oil filters and the Toyota filtration in that test was....disappointing. Normally I stick with OEM branded parts, but for the Toyota oil filter, I'll probably use USA-made aftermarket parts (Mobil 1 or Purolator). If a...

Newbie advice for taking care of car

Oh, one thing I forgot: leather. Most "leather" these days is just vinyl. For vinyl, water and microfiber towels will be good for all the typical cleaning. The LC FE has some real leather. For real leather, quarterly to semi-annual cleaning and leather treatment. Tons of brands out there...

Newbie advice for taking care of car

OP, I love hearing more people engaging on their own maintenance and car care. It's a dying skillset. Personally, I never take my vehicles to automated car washes because the brushes they use are brutal on the paint, and I don't like other mechanics touching my car because they're less...

    Painting the plastic

One thing to consider is the texture of the plastic, which will show through the paint. Toyota plastics tend to use a fine pebbly texture, and when you paint it the finished product will look more orange-peel than the smoother steel/aluminum stamped parts. It will change the appearance of the...
