In the distant past, did own a Toyota diesel (and several diesel Fords). No big difference, I think. In the past the caution was not to apply full load until at operating temperatures, which is still good advice, and to give the turbo a couple of minutes to spool down before shutting down, but...
Give me a Detroit Locker! No worrying about engaging/disengaging. :) But yes, A-trac is very effective, albeit not instantaneous as a locked differential is. There is disappointment that a front locker was not offered, but it may have exceeded the budget to incorporate.
Thanks GasStationArt08. At least we know there is some variant of transmission cooling, but not if an external small heat exchanger, or internally within the radiator. Either way, a heck of a lot better than none.
There has been discussion on the Tacoma forum re the transmission cooler was recently eliminated, and overheating on the latest generation. As they are virtually the same drive train, can one of you lucky new LC owners confirm if there is a transmission cooler? Sure hope Toyota is not cutting...
Welcome dchilder! There seems to be a real disparity in regard to availability. Some are finding the new LC, even an occasional First Edition, on lots and uncommitted, whereas others, such you and I, are on a waiting list.
Over 60 years I have never purchased a vehicle with absolute zero miles. They are driven a tad at the plant, when loading/unloading on the ship/train, and at the dealer. However, I am 100% with you, nobody should drive my vehicle after arriving at the dealer, in particular a test drive.
I should get the drain tool, as at least 50% of the time I make a mess, and this would help. And, would not have to deal with the drain plug gasket, and torquing it with my "calibrated arm". :)
Great accessories and tools! I have to chuckle re the "advanced" engine oil funnel. I presume this is referring to the clear neck, of which mine is without?
AH HA, lucky you, and welcome to the forum! Heck, have ZERO information re our order, from the dealer, or online. I think our small dealer dropped the ball, too busy getting a FE for the owner and his brother. Seriously! May I ask if yours will have a sunroof? This seems to be the holdup on some...
I'm with you re the ugly front ends, and not just Toyotas. All truck fronts are obnoxious in my opinion, and they seem to be attempting to outdo one another. Strange regarding the timing chain. Possibly related to the present issue with oil galley contamination?
The general consensus is that Japanese plants produce superior products compared to others. This said, if I were in the market for a pickup, it would be a Tundra, even with the engine disaster presently occurring. In fact, a great price on a 2024 could probably be negotiated. As long as the VIN...
Madrigal, welcome to the forum! Beautiful machine! You have answered one of my questions, i.e. LC's with sunroofs are indeed being sold. Sadly, to the best of my knowledge, there is still a hold at port for these, pending a fix for what seems to be a sunroof issue.
I see them focused on different purchaser profiles, i.e. the 4Runner aimed at the younger set. It is essentially a Tacoma forward of the rear seat, back to when the 4Runner was initially conceived. The LC has limited trim levels, essentially two, but we know that will not be true for the new...
I hear you qberg, but I believe in transparency. I really feel sorry for those with engines that, due to a manufacturing issue, have the potential to seize at any time.
Are you a quality and production engineer for consumer vehicle engines? Where is the data to dispute his conclusion? We can safely go with 10K mile oil changes? Is it possible the duty cycle/use of a vehicle engine may be markedly different than your environment? I would love to go 10K miles...
