I’m not ready to buy a new vehicle, but an accident on Friday in my beloved 2015 Chevrolet SS that mangled the front bumper cover might force my hand. Repair parts are extremely difficult to find, so it may be totaled once all is said and done.
My plans to acquire a Land Cruiser may have been...
That kit will work on pretty much any Toyota or Lexus. Makes life so much simpler, maintenance that is easy and convenient is maintenance that will be performed more often!
Just order it and have it on hand for the first oil change.
Yes. Forbidden glitter.
I have to make jokes about V35A-FTS’s failing by eating bearings due to machining debris being left over from manufacturing engine blocks.
If your oil has a bunch of shiny glitter looking stuff in it, that is bad. Very bad.
That looks nice, 3/8” drive or put a larger socket on it, all metal construction, probably work great.
Good find.
Here is an Amazon link to the one I’m using...
Hopefully it will work.
I got mine at the Toyota dealership.
Asked what their techs used to deal with oil filters, they had the tool in stock. Well worth the effort. I’ll bet your local dealer service/parts department will point you in the right direction too.
As far as I know ALL current Toyota oil filter housings, and spin on canister filters use a 64mm 14 flute design for installation and removal. That filter wrench works on my 2007 Tundra with a cartridge element in a filter housing, it worked on a 2006 Scion tC with a 2.4L 4 cylinder using a spin...
Michelin usually does a god job, but for serious off-road use a 10 ply tire is going to pay off in the long run.
I’m not sure what the 20” wheels cone shod in, I’m assuming it isn’t the Michelin LTX Trail that comes on the LC and FE 18”s.
Someone confirm this or correct it please.
I’ve driven a few hundred miles on those over the years. Not much to say. They’re very quiet, seemed to do well in the rain, and have a reputation for living a long service life. The few examples I’ve driven rode very well, and steering feel was about as good as you can get on a body on frame...
Well that is a disappointing glove box.
I also have shot competitively, but it’s been too long. My work life balance is heavily work biased these days.
My solution for really challenging trails would involve a nice flat bed utility trailer with a Rzr or some other off road toy. Tow it to your play ground with the LC, go play, don’t sweat breaking or wadding up your daily driver.
Sure there’s a lower clearance at the front, but the LC just waltzed through a fairly challenging trail without too much trouble. Maybe not worth worrying about. Especially if a guy can put 34”s or 35”s under it without modification.
Your plan is better than most.
I’d rather wait and do something right than waste money on half assed solutions.
In the case of the Land Cruiser I would say 99% of owners, including those who go off road, don’t need anything more that some good all terrain tires, the FE style skid plates...
That won’t stop a bunch of owners from installing cheap spacer lifts and larger tires to do less challenging off roading, ruining ride quality, fuel efficiency, handling, and braking in the process.
Not saying there won’t be super high quality suspensions with lift on the market for the LC that...
Also saw GX550 at the same dealership, we subjectively prefer the cosmetics of the Land Cruiser over the GX550 as well.
GX is now to be ruled out given the distance from where we live to the nearest dealer, a 5 hour drive to get warranty service isn’t gonna fly.
So next year I will start...
I finally have seen Land Cruisers in person today with both round and rectangular headlights. Both my wife and I strongly prefer the rectangular units, fortuitous that they also seem to perform better too.
How would you rate the Michelin vs Hakka’s with studs? I don’t mind running an LT tire for winter use in the off chance I do end up off road and need a more robust sidewall. Studs are legal in my area of operations FYI.
I bought a 3 stage Cub Cadet snow blower two years ago. Used it a lot that first winter didn’t even run it last winter.
Now that I own a snow blower I can daily a rear wheel drive sports car year round in the Black Hills. LOL.
