Especially where it was marketed as the build your own off road rig etc. I get it if they didn’t want to do MTS but the SDM would have been great. It’s definitely a key off-road feature. Big miss in my opinion.
Someone else in here posted a video of how loud the engine was from outside and I believe that one was presumed to be injectors. I do know on other Toyotas the injectors can be ridiculously loud and it varies in intensity whether it’s in a direct injection or port injection cycle.

Anyone else remember how many people panicked when they heard the self cleaning cycle for the direct injection systems? The forums were lit up with threads for a while until everyone realized it was normal.

I have no reason to doubt the validity, others on hear said they heard the same thing. The question is whether it’s truly an issue, true knock or something else going on. Time will tell, it’ll get sorted regardless. Within 12-18 months the gremlins should be taken care of.
I have no idea what Toyota was thinking with the gas tank size. The vast majority of buyers would have preferred extra range. Especially when you see what they do with tank sizes overseas.
I hope these issues get sorted out quickly. I’m sure they’re minor but still unsettling. Having this gremlin pop up with no cell service and 60 miles from pavement wouldn’t be fun.
