Does anyone actually get the posted 22/24 mpg?

What I’m figuring out is that the mileage can be very different depending on driving conditions, and counterintuitively highway cruising is not where you get the best.

Past couple weeks I’ve headed into the office in quasi-rush hour traffic and on back roads. Not a lot of highway speed cruising and a certain amount of start and stop, which I figure brings the battery into the equation. I’ve been seeing 28-29 MPG in those conditions. But driving down the highway at 70 MPH, I get about 19.5.

In 2004 we bought an Armada. Had about a 28g tank. We never had a problem running out of gas. When the fuel light came on there was maybe 2 gallons left, about 30 miles of gas, so you stopped asap. Too many @$!#& were running out of gas in these cars pushing their luck with the gas gauge and filing complaints. So nissan recalls all the armadas and changes the sending unit. Hacks up the carpet in the process. Imagine how much this cost Nissan.
So now my wife runs out of gas 3 times after this recall after getting used to having 5 gallons remaining after the light came on. Anyway...
The manufacturers cannot win, if they make gauge precise, people run out out of gas and/or complain. If they add safety margin, people run out of gas and/or complain.
So if nissan recall happened with 28gallon tanks at ~15mpg it would probably happen with 17.9 gallon tanks at ~20mpg. That's why you have ~3.5 gallons remaining when fuel range displays 0 miles. Manufacturers point of view is that is better to havecomplaints about having extra gas than not having any gas from side of the road in sub zero temps. Designers also have to take into account hilly areas.
In my old 1984 300ZX, Nissan had included a second fuel gauge that concentrated on the last 1/4 of the tank. You could get pretty aggressive with it and I pushed it too far one or twice!

We Need To Talk About How Nissan Made The Best Fuel Gauge Ever

33 mpg in UK Gallons on diesel generally after 7k miles

I think you divide BY 1.2 - if correct 33 is 27.5

Of course the fact we are working with a 2.8 lt diesel with no hybridisation renders the comparison meaningless

Same for me, i can barely get 19mpg at 75 (hills and nitto grapplers) so i take the scenic route for half of trip to work and get 23mpg average for the trip. For the weight, shape, and capability of the vehicle it's not awful, just nothing like what EPA claims.

I got 25mpg on a drive today. I find that it can vary quite a bit... anywhere from 17 at the worst, 19-22 is normal, and if I'm in a really light footed, warm day'ed, highway decelerating mood, I get 25.

End of the day, I still love it and will fill it up when it gets low.

How much noise do you hear from the Nittos?

I don’t quite understand how you come up with only 14 gallons of gasoline being ‘usable’ in a 17.9 gallon tank. 🤔
Because whenever I fill up I only put about 14 gallons back in until full and it usually registers around 45 miles or less left to empty. How many gallons do you usually put in at fill up? You can go beyond empty but its a guessing game at that point.

We are around a 70 litre tank and that equates to 500 mile range at around 32/33 mpg on average- that’s imperial gallons which are 4.54609 litres to the gallon

What range is the petrol hybrid giving you folk in North America - I would want around 500 miles even across here when we do have fuel pretty readily available at least every 75 miles even up at the top of Scotland

I typically get 330miles, i refill at around 20miles remaining on my commute which has fuel fill stations a plenty. That's 50% highway driving and 50% rural. If is just highway driving i get about 275 before filling up. We're in a hilly part of the country so not much flat running.

The fuel tank is smaller in the North America versions to further reduce range at just under 68 litres. That's why there are a lot of posts on here about trying to fit a second or larger tank.
I believe I read the Japanese market 2.8L diesel has about 900km range, which sounds similar to yours.

Update: I have approximately 12,000 miles on my 2024 First Edition running BFG KO3s (265/70R18 124S) and am now averaging approximately 21.5mpg. This is up from 20mpg over the fall and winter months. I’m attributing the increase in fuel efficiency to warmer temperatures as no other variables have changed.

I'm clocking in at 17.2 mpg. 700 miles on ODM, I drive like a grandma, I have only put in premium gas, stock wheels, in ECO mode 100% of the time. What gives???? I should be at minimum getting 22 mpg. I wouldn't really care all that much except the tank is tiny...15 gallons. I only get a range of 280 miles per fill.
I have a completely stock 1958, 500 miles on it. No roof rack no running boards. It’s averaging 22.5 and if I try to hyper mile on country roads and small towns, I’ve hit 24 to 25 MPG over the course of a half hour

Yep nearly - 500 miles is around 815 km and have been seeing the dash showing around 500 after filling the tank

Got 21.5 for 100 miles on NY State thruway with a canoe on the roof. Cruise control set at 72mph for 70 actual gps speed. Mostly flat.
