If anyone is wanting to use a slightly longer filter, WIX 57145XP will fit in place of the OEM filter, get almost 4oz more oil, went 6 quarts almost at the full line. Also put in n REDLINE 0W-20.

Are there any advantages to a longer filter? Are WIX filters any ‘better’ than the OEM Toyota filter?

4oz to the normal 6qt is meaningless. The additional filter material may be helpful, however the pressure rating may be different for the bypass valve. More information is needed.

It is purely a mental feelin, A smaller body filter, may have more pleats and actual filter media, than a larger body one. So many people think that the engine responds to what you want. The fact is the engine responds to what it wants. An air filter comparison would make it easier to explain. If your engine needs 750 cfm of flow to feed itself, and the stock filter flows 750 cfm, going to a 850 cfm flowing filter will do nothing for power. The oil filter is no different. Only so much oil will enter and exit the filter. Adding Volume is just a negligle effect.

If the purpose of the filter is to filter contaminants out of the oil, I feel pretty good about changing my OEM filter at half of Toyota’s suggested interval. As to filter quality, if it’s good enough for a Yaris, it has to be good. Right?

Welcome to the asylum LTrip.

Yea, I think that I will too, since I don’t have any hard data on if the WIX do a better job filtering the oil.
