So I’ve had method 703 17” wheels for a month now. Every time I get on the interstate going 80, after about 20 minutes I get an alert that there’s a tpms malfunction. When I get back to city driving and hit the relearn thing in the dash, pressures come back. Anyone else have this issue? Not sure if it’s due to wheels or an issue with the LC.

It’s a long shot but perhaps going that fast, depending on what tire you’re running it heats up and pressures increase? Just a thought.

I have no sensors in my winter tires but the Land Cruiser picks up the tires I have stored in the basement. When I leave the house it takes about 20 minutes and I get the warning.

Cold weather will affect tire pressure, wheels shouldn't have any bearing on TP. Mine does the opposite, light comes on at startup and goes away after about 10 min of driving (stock wheels).

Pressures are fine. Right now 30 cold and they don’t go up past 34. And yeah I was surprised how well it picks sensors up because my spare is just sitting in the garage and occasionally it’ll show up. And I also assumed the 20 minutes it took was just for the car to realize it really can’t find a sensor. Just weird and was hoping someone else had it or a solution.

I am having the exact same issue on a random basis. Running 17" Method 703's with Toyota OE tire pressure monitors. Have tried to reset through the menu system but to no avail. Eventually, on it's on volition, it will resume working as normal. Outside temperature has been hovering around -1C. The randomness between working & malfunctioning makes no real sense.

For people with this TPWS Malfunction message, do you still have a spare tire mounted under the trunk of your vehicle, or did you remove that?

Since my post on December 19th, I have pinned the problem down to my removal of the spare. What was throwing me off was the fact that the TPMS will still work without the spare and it's TPM for 20 minutes or so but then the malfunction message would pop up and no other tire info would be available for at least 24 hours. Have now installed a rear hitch mounted tire carrier and mounted my new wheel/tire with the original TPM and everything is back to normal.

I was waiting on a better deal for a 5th wheel to throw a spare under my LC so I've been dealing with the "MALFUNCTION!!!" notification.

On the facebook group a guy has this fun little project to fix the issue. Just make a small toy pipebomb. It's so cute.

Yeah I’ve seen that. Problem is I do frequent five tire rotations and don’t feel like changing sensor programming. I just live with it. I only get the warning when I leave town. As soon as I’m home it picks up in the garage and then does fine around town. Nice trick if you only have 4 wheels.
