Toyota needs to hire the guy that designed this...

To design their cargo floors. This is from Toyota's accessory catalog, and has a sumo class weight bearing capacity of "about 200 kg". The cargo floor is only rated for 60kg. Hard to believe this thing will support 4 bags of cement. Try hauling that back from Home Depot.

It’s the covers to the storage areas that have the 60kg limit, not the cargo area entirely. It’s still a little silly for Toyota to use a part that flimsy in a space designed to carry stuff, but I think we’ll be ok with the cement bags.
 
No problem hauling the cement. The cargo area is not limited but for a very thin strip. Seems like trolling or FUD
Well I definitely missed the * on the cargo floor capacity. So I only need to worry when I have to put a knee on the end of the floor to crawl in, or if I'm loading something heavy and have to rest it there. At least it's not much of a drop if it fails. Would prefer a design without weak spots. No trolling intended.

Yeah, it's just that cover for the storage compartment at the start of the cargo area that the weight limit applies to... and I would assume that weight distribution would matter as well....so yeah, you putting all your weight on your knee as you climb in is a good example of something that may be a problem, but I'd image most of the time when you're loading something fairly heavy, it's weight won't be focused on that particular section for very long (if at all).

Definitely too many reviewers see that and pass along bad info making people think that's the weight limit for the entire cargo area...which would be insane for a utility vehicle such as this one.

If it becomes a huge issue, wouldn’t be hard to cut a piece of plywood to match the trim piece and paint it or cover it with black adhesive carpet. Then use it instead of the OEM piece. (Note there is a second one forward of the battery too).

But I sort of forgot about it once I loaded stuff into that bin and put the mat over it. I really don’t think it’s a practical issue as much as it is a technical design spec that sounds more impactful than it is.
 
Yeah, that was my first impression. Like how could they design something like that? I was concerned when I had to crawl in to install the cargo cover. I almost called my daughter to make sure I was under the weight limit, but the floor felt sturdy enough once I was in there.

I agree the warning is mostly for CYA technicalities. Where Toyota really deserves pitchfork and torch-like criticism is the cargo area design for the 3rd row seat variants. Eeeek!

Hard to believe, but it's significantly worse than it looks!

It's just so flimsy, it's a real pain to open and close properly. I don't mind the loss of space as much as I hate how badly the damn box is designed/made/fitted.

Garbage box for useless seats all for an even more useless hybrid.

I laid a 3/8 piece of plywood across to try & distribute the weight on that outer edge of anything heavy I put in - - loaded 2 toilets from Home Depot, floor tile, and mortar without incident with a weight of about 600 pounds
