Can anyone assist me in figuring out the proper installation measurements for installing side body moldings using American measurements? I have instructions but they are explained as mm (millimeters), I guess. I don’t want to screw up my new vehicle by installing these incorrectly. Here is the link that I have seen with the measurements: https://toyotaparts.sparkstoyota.com/install/PT29A-60240inst.pdf

Hello,
I ended buying the moldings for my LC and they did their job a couple times already. I saw a couple of dings from some careless persons car door on the moldings.
I ended up mounting them about a 1/2” above the door panel body line.
I don’t know if that’s the exact installation placement but they worked good so far.
I’ll attach a picture, hopefully this helps.

Thank you for your reply and information about where you positioned your side panel moldings. I also purchased them, immediately after buying my car. They arrived today with NO instructions in the box, only a sticker on the package which said "ATTENTION The installation instructions for this accessory are on the electronic TOYOTA Information System (TIS). Please see your Dealer for a copy." I went on the internet and downloaded information about TIS, but this did NOT provide any information about installation. I called the Parts Department where I purchased the molding and he had no information. I went online and found the link I provided in my initial posting, which presented the measurements but NOT in inches. I find this VERY difficult to follow. I used a conversion App, yet cannot get exact measurements. The way you positioned yours looks great on the picture you provided. I sincerely appreciate it. If anyone has exact measurements in inches, please let us know. Thank you.

Get a fabric tape measure from Walmart or wherever that has cm and mm on it. Then go by the mm per the TIS instructions. I used some 3M auto tape that worked well too and a laser level for OCD install.

You could have titled this “Calling Canadians”.

Here’s the conversion of the lengths in the instructions

The answers are fractional inches. There are 25.4. mm to the inch

845/25.4‎ = 33.268
380 /25.4‎ = 14.961

235 /25.4‎ = 9.252
248 /25.4‎ = 9.764
249 /25.4‎ = 9.803
256 /25.4‎ = 10.0787

Hey there our Canadian friends, I appreciate your conversion chart. I'm sure I am not alone when I say that when attempting to use a US tape measure and figure out how to get close to those numbers is absolutely impossible. I finally used a fabric tape, which has inches on one side and centimeters (cm) on the other, then I converted millimeters (mm) which is what the instructions for installation showed to centemeters (cm) and I used the fabric tape to mark the precise measurements on the side of my vehicle, using a grease pencil. Not all that simple, but taking my time resulted in a very nice outcome and the side body moulding look nice. Again, thank you so much for your assistance. I sincerely appreciate it.

I LOVED the pictures of how you applied the 3M tape, as you did, and the outcome of your efforts look amazing on your vehicle!!!!! Amazing job!!!!! Thank you for sharing

Being Canadian means you are doomed to living with two systems. My kids are virtually all metric and no longer understand imperial measures. I will say in woodworking I have moved to metric as there are no fractions and precision beyond millimeters is unnecessary.

Our side moldings were installed by the dealer prior to sale. I wouldn't have added them but they have already saved a couple of dings

The calculation is 1mm x .0394 in., for instance one of the dimensions is
845, 845mm X .0394 in. = 33.293 in.

Below is a picture of side body moldings I installed over the weekend. You need to take your time, but in my opinion, they look great. The main reason for installing is to prevent dings and bumps as people often get too close and allow their door go bump your vehicle.

I paid about $280.00 plus tax, from a local Toyota Dealer parts department. I read somewhere that if a dealer installs they, they can charge close to $300.00 to install them (not sure if that is accurate)., but, if you take your time, measure 2-3 time to make sure the measurements are correct, you will do great.

I agree. I think they look sharp and add another element of ruggedness as well as adding protection.

If I were to do it myself, every time I looked at them, I would envision they are not installed perfectly straight.
