2025 LC 1958
What do you all do for rust proofing the LC? I read fluid film is easy enough to spray on yourself. Should I look into doing this? Would this void any warranty?

I used industrial wool wax (black) from a giant container and air dispersal. I spent hours spraying it after taking the wheels off. Used a rack. It's a lot of work but worth it as I planned at the time to keep it.

If you're in a salty area, I'd suggest it. Although I will admit that the frame on this vehicle seems much better coated from the factory than previous generation Toyota's.

I went with Corrosion free, any good oil based spray should be good though. I’ve done this with my Toyota’s before and I’ve had no issues with warranty/service it’s pretty common up here to spray.

I’ve heard for hybrids you should avoid any spray that’s tinted black as that will hide the high voltage lines in case of emergency. I don’t think there’s much exposed on the LC though.

If you’re in a rust-prone area, I see rustproofing as a necessity if you intend to keep your vehicle for a long time. Any oil or lanolin-based product will suffice. It helps to get it done professionally, because it will be a more thorough application. Up here in Canada they actually drill holes into certain areas to spray the product on the inside. Typically this should be done annually.

I got my LC in February and only had 1 snow storm with her. I was installing some skids and noticed a few spots of rust underneath. I know I’m prolly overthinking, but is this normal?

I was under mine running some wiring and saw the same… not thrilled about it. Had her since August.

It’s 2025; is rust proofing still a thing?

I no longer live in the rust belt, but grew up in the Midwest at a time when this was a huge sale point for dealers. I never had my cars done then. I left in 2005 and none of my vehicles I took with me ever had a rust issue. I sold my 2000 Honda Odyssey 10 years later with no rust. My 2004 Accord still running strong with no rust (just one harsh winter on this one).

When living there, I always washed my cars at least once a week during the winter. I spent a lot of time spraying beneath the car and the wheel wells with both soap and then a rinse. Seemed to work well for me.

I coated my LC when I brought it home from the dealer last July with Fluid Film and have not experienced any rust during this snow/salt season. Plan to touch up this summer.
