As a narrower tire suits my needs well, my plan was to go with the 245/70-18 KO3s, keeping the stock 1958 tire size. Then I noticed that there is a KO3 in 235/80-18 load range E. The diameter of this tire is only 0.2” larger than the KO3 in the commonly used 265/70-18 size, and 1.3” larger than the 245/70-18 diameter.

The only downside I can see is the 235/80-18, at 54.1 pounds, weighs 4 pounds more per tire than the 245/70-18 KO3. But the taller sidewall and additional 1/2” clearance would be nice.

Am I missing anything here, or would a 235/80-18 E rated KO3 be a viable tire option?

If ground clearance is higher on the consideration the 235 80 may work better, but be advised that is a pretty skinny tire. The tire shown below is going to be 1.5 inches wider (sectional width) than the Ko3 you reference. The tire shown is a Toyo at3 34 10.5 17.

Also this is a +35mm rim. So the wheel is set 25mm (about an inch) more away from the body than stock. I think the stock 1958 rims may have even more positive offset than the regular. Basically 3/4 inch for less tire width (halved), and 1.25 inches for wheel offset, and the outside surface of your tire choice on OEM 1958 rims will be two inches closer to the frame than the photo below.
