Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time thread starter. I've been in love with Land Crusiers since I was teenager, and even more so when I lived in Africa during college. Our group went everywhere in an early 90's troopy that just seemed to take everything the world threw at it and then some. I always knew I'd eventually get a Land Cruiser myself and the time has finally come!

Picked up my ice cap 1958 this week and immediately drove it 1000 miles home in 2 days. I feel I was able to get very comfortable with the truck very quickly and here's my 2 cents for what it's worth:

1.) I love the interior. Cloth seats are incredibly comfortable, cockpit is very ergonomic, heating & air controls are very intuitive. I appreciate how paired down and simplistic the interior is. Everything you need and nothing you don't.
2.) I was surprised at how well this vehicle drives, especially for it's size. The power is solid and the braking is great. It weighs almost twice as much as my previous/now commuter car and it accelerates quicker AND stops quicker.
3.) This thing is so unbelievably comfortable to be in for long periods of time. The ride is soft enough to soak up the ruts and potholes of backcountry roads but stiff enough to inspire confidence at higher speeds and in turns. Not nearly as much body roll as I expected.

That's my TED talk, happy to be a part of the club finally after all these years, cheers.

I'm pretty sure the old FJ40 advertisements read: "Land Cruiser...built for the wild's of mother nature...and the wild's of Buc-ee's"
I think that’s almost verbatim.
Funny thing is that I just came from a tiny creek crossing before that. First time getting it off the beaten path.

I just joined the forum. I’ve been doing a lot of research and decided on the 1958. I know color is a personal preference but I’m struggling between ice cap and meteor shower. I currently own a white Rubicon. I’ve always liked white and it is cooler in our Central Texas summers.

Having owned a white vehicle for the past 10 years, I’ve been thinking about a change. However, I’m not a huge fan of silver. What are your thoughts about the ice cap vs meteor shower? Any regrets?

I’m looking for a 1958 and live in Austin. We are in Houston all the time. I’m looking for the best pricing on a 1958. How much below MSRP is considered a good deal?

No regrets on the ice cap whatsoever. It looks much better in person than online photos. To me it gives off a simple utilitarian vibe (think UN LC's in Africa) but it's still nice enough to look good on the highway. I've always been partial to the Toyota Ice Cap white though; previously had a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 also in Ice Cap so I guess it's my go to Toyota 4x4 color. Also in Central Texas and I know that brutal summer heat is coming.

It’s great in person. And I’m already starting to feel the heat/humidity here in Houston.

For full transparency, I paid $52,250 for everything except taxes. I had to fly to Missouri to get this truck and then pay Texas state taxes when I registered it here. I e-mailed every major dealership in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. Not one of them could get within $6K and the majority of them only had LC's spec'd with an obnoxious amount of dealer add-on's...I wanted the absolute least number of add-on's possible and snagged this one with just the floor mats.

Join the no markup toyota facebook page and browse there. Highly recommend Rusty Drewing Toyota in Missouri though. And in all honestly I think I could have gotten the truck down to ~$50.5-51.5 if I had waited until the end of the month when they need to move inventory. This was the exact spec I wanted though with 6 miles on the dash and I couldn't have gone up there next week so I pulled the trigger. Good luck with the search though!

I’m just like you. I’m shopping a 150 mile radius. What was the best discount below MSRP in your Texas search? Do you mind sharing the dealer’s name? I will definitely check out the no markup page. Thank you!
