79 series
Hello All,

I am a new member to this forum and would appreciate any guidance given.

I have a landcruiser 79 series with a straight 6, 4.2 Litre, diesel engine.

I have started slowing doing the vehicle up as I love land cruisers this my fourth one, it is a twin cab Ute.

I bought the vehicle with the original steel grey rims on it. They seem to rust a lot on require balancing with small lead counterweights. They protect where the disks are for the brakes too much and I cannot get in there to rinse the calipers ect. I also cannot see when brakes lock and disks get damaged.

I would like to buy rims and new tyres for the vehicle. The vehicle is used around salt a lot (trying to stop) we drive on low tide sand flats to load and off load surfing equipment and large fish. I’m also interested in starting a landscaping business and want the vehicle to be able to handle mud tracks ect. The vehicle has a 2” lift with old man emu suspension (I hate this suspension, had a whole leaf snap and opted to remove 1 leaf from both sides).

I am also concerned that the 4.2 litre diesel engine without a turbo might have to work a little hard if I put larger tyres on it.

Any recommendations on the size and alloy vs steel?

Current factory tires are - 16” 5 stud 275-70r 16
