Just picked up a 2025 Land Cruiser 1958. Honestly, if I was going to spend more, I would've gone GX—but out of principle, I couldn’t do it. Lexus expected folks to drop $82K+ on a vehicle that hadn’t even shown up on a single dealership lot for a test drive. No thanks. Felt like a pretentious move.
Went with the LC1958 because it was $20K less and made more sense. I skipped the LC Base since the price was creeping too close to the GX, and let's be real—most people associate Lexus with more luxury, so that brand-value comparison just didn’t check out.
So far, happy with the '58. The boxy, retro look is what sold me and honestly- it looked like the GX. I'm a sucker for squared-off SUVs—my last ride was a late-gen LR4, which I sold the moment I saw the new LC reveal (and prior to that was an LR2). Thought about going with an older Defender, but this time around, reliability won out (even though I had a pretty solid run with my LR2 and LR4).
Only thing I’ve noticed so far—some of the materials and build touches make you raise an eyebrow at the $60K+ price tag. A few spots feel a bit lighter, more hollow, or not quite as solid as you'd expect. Not a deal-breaker (almost), just something I noticed but I had to upgrade the upholstery seats to leather- that was a must.
Not an off-roader, just a guy who likes cool-looking SUVs and mostly sticks to surface streets. Just here for the vibes and the boxes.
