Hi. I'm new to the site but not new to Landcruisers. I have been living overseas enjoying my retirement when the Landcruiser was being reintroduced to the U.S. At the time I was planning my return to the U.S. for March of 2024 and I needed a car when I arrived. I knew I would have trouble getting an LC at that time because of availability issues, so I remotely purchased a 2023 Bronco sight unseen. I picked it up the day after I arrived in March of 2024. I liked the Bronco (loved the V6) and made two trips from Minnesota to the West Coast and back during the summer and fall. I learned then that the Bronco was great on the trails but on the highway the wind noise from the hardtop drove me nuts. Because I owned a 1983 FJ60 from 1983 to 1990, the new LC kept pulling on my heart. So after not even owning the Bronco for a year, I traded it in on a new LC.
I love the way it cruises the highway - which is most of my driving - so I'm satisfied with the move. I do go offroad to get to remote sites (I'm an amateur landscape photographer), and the only disadvantages I've noticed so far (compared to the Bronco), are driving range and turning radius. The Bronco had a bigger tank and got better gas mileage so I would have a range of over 400 miles. It never occured to me to carry extra gas on overland trips. In the LC the range is a bit over 300 miles, and with my upcoming return trip to Utah, I'm carrying an extra can of gas with me. And did I mention the turning radius? That was a big disappointment. But I'm 78 years old and I'm not going back to the Bronco.
So today I stubled on to this forum, and joined immediately. I'm anxious to learn about my new LC from the experts.......you folks!
So I'll start by asking a question. My wife and I have been noticing a pungent smell coming into the cabin when the vehicle heats up. It smells like burning rubber but it's not the tires. I mentioned it to the salesman when I first bought it and he said that the LC cat converter smells like that but it dissipates after you get a few miles on it. Well I'm over 700 miles on it and it seems to be getting worse. Makes my eyes water and my wife said she thought she was going to get sick when we had it out last week.
Anyone else experience anything like that?
