Hello Forum Members,

I am an owner of a 2010 4 Runner Limited which I love, but if might be time for something new. Of course, I was immediately drawn to the new 4 Runner, but the interior of the Landcruiser and its off-road potential is drawing me in. I have had just a taste of the off-roading scene with my buddy's built 4 Runner, and I see it as a possibility in my future. This in addition to the interior of the Landcruiser has me looking this way. If I were to bite on the 4 Runner, it would be a Platinum, but that would eliminate any off-roading obviously. I recently drove the Landcruiser, and it was amazing. I am waiting on an opportunity to drive the Platinum before finalizing my decision.
Sorry for the long post, but I do have some questions of the community....1) I am coming from a Limited 4 Runner with the XREAS suspension which is the mechanical version of the AVS on the new 4 Runner. The Landcruiser does not have this I would assume due to its off-roading potential. How does the Landcruiser drive on the street? I found it near perfect. How do you feel about any wallowing and/or nose dive? Most of my driving will be on the street. However, an occasional off-roading adventure is certainly a likelihood. The type of driving I am entertaining is more of the Baja style with some speed opposed to the rock crawling stuff. As this is the case, two questions come to mind....1) Does the full time 4 wheel drive nature of the Landcruiser lead to push in the corners as opposed to the tail out fun of a non-full time system in 2 wheel drive mode?, and 2) Should I even be considering the SDM given my off-roading intentions are NOT to rock crawl?
Appreciate your time, and thank you for having me.

Welcome Revman! In regard to XREAS, yes, I think you are correct, the focus of the LC is off-roading capability. XRES was problematic, in that invariably it would fail, and VERY expensive to repair. Ask me how I know. :( Our LC is arriving without the SDM, and was initially disappointed, but thinking about it, as with you, will not be doing any rock-crawling, so one less gadget to have any issues. Besides, the LC has decent articulation without the SDM.

Thank you, and thank you for the reply. I also had to repair the XREAS, but I absolutely liked the on road feel. It was a game changer when I was shopping 4 Runner way back in 2010. Would not have done the deal without it. AVS is the more modern interpretation of that system, and that is a good move for Toyota....but as you mentioned, it is a hinderance off-road. Having said all of that, I feel like the LC has a beautiful on road ride without all of that. I don't see myself as ever going rock crawling, so I won't likely bite on the SDM.
