Hello there!
I am new to these forums, Toyota and the Land Cruiser family of vehicles. I took home a 1958 yesterday. I am located in the Slring, TX area (North Houston) but I am not originally from Texas. California -> Oregon -> Texas. Since about 2012 I have almost exclusively ridden motorcycles. I had a 99 BMW M3 for quite awhile until someone wanted to buy it off me. I started off in a sport bike and did several road trips with it. After that I stayed on adventure motorcycles for a long time. Better for commuting and road trips and that led me to doing BDRs. Fast forward to a couple years ago when I got bit by the sport bike bug again, I went full back into that but it didn’t last long. Got rid of my fast bikes and got a couple Groms (his and hers) to tinker with and commute (maybe make it a mini adventurer in the future). Also over the last year-ish I’ve been expanding further into woodworking. This coincided with a random person wanting to buy my car and so the plans went into place to get a vehicle that allowed me more utility for a growing hobby/maybe future business as well as fuel my passion for exploring off the beaten path. I also occasionally do some photography so that may pop up here from time to time. Besides that I work in basically tech support. I like to work on my own stuff when I can, hence having the great platform of a Grom and what I assume will be in the Land Cruiser.
I was originally looking at a Rivian, but with the economy taking a dump and the outlook looking unpredictable, I am playing it a bit safer for now and decided gas. Toyota was my gas option. I had originally looked at the 4Runner. Then I saw a Land Cruiser on the other side of the dealership glass. I love its design and I had been interested in the older Land Cruisers some time ago. I sat in it and looked around and I was practically sold.
I know people are put off by the motor, but I see it as a plus in higher altitudes. I’m not too worried about the hybrid system since Toyota has been doing this well longer than anyone else. I do also feel the entirety from others about having a slight bit more in the interior for the price, but I feel that way about Toyota in general. It would also be nice to have a bump in mpg like many have said, like the hybrid in the Ford Maverick, but I do understand that there are several design choices that do lead to this. (Shape of the vehicle, drive system, wheels/tires, set up more for utility) It is definitely more capable than the Maverick.
I have poured through these forums so much between yesterday and today.
I currently have weatherproof liners coming in.
I am looking at:
Second set of tires (I want a set of all terrains)
Speakers upgrades (maybe add something like dynamats?)
Display replacement
And I may stumble into more.
I plan on being able to put the back seats down and being able to make the whole back area flat so I can camp in the back. So hopefully people here have gotten started on that o I can get some ideas, if not I will get around to it and share.
Besides the tires, the other stuff is just due to what I’ve fallen into on the forums already haha. Not necessarily pulling the trigger though.
I also do understand the cabin noise one people have pointed out. It’s not bad but it is noticeable. Like at highway speeds I would need to turn up my music or I would lose hearing detail. Street speeds I find very quiet.
Adding the mandatory picture to show I have one, but it’s just a quick photo from my phone as I walked out to it this morning.
