I’m picking up the mid-range Land Cruiser in the next week and considering upgrading to the First Edition roof rack. Is there a notable increase in wind noise with the FE rack? Thanks for any insights!

Welcome to the forum IrishFan! Have noticed some reviews of the FE roof rack indicating it was lacking in robustness, in particular, but not limited to, the front air dam. I will probably investigate aftermarket offerings.

Welcome to the asylum IrishFan. After the excitement of new ownership wore off, I have noticed the wind noise on my Miss Daisy emanating from the roof rack, and the A pillars.

My LCLC came with cross bars and I noticed wind noise on the drive home after purchasing it. I took them off right away and the wind noise stopped completely. (I'd also guess that I get slightly better gas mileage too.)

Looking at the FE's roof rack profile, with more cross members and weight, I'd guess that it produces even more noise, and hurts gas mileage more, than the standard cross bars did on mine.

Sounds crazy do not know
The 1st pic is the OEM roof rack without cross bars for the LC and the 2nd pic is the OEM roof rack for the First Edition.

There’s a good amount of wind noise from the roof rack. I’d say when driving the car under 45 mphs the cabin is really quiet… then it starts to kick up and seems to be largely driven by roof rack and then maybe boxy shape of the car and the side mirrors contributing too.

I’m hoping there will be an aftermarket option with better noise.

I’ll also look to add some sound deadening materials to the car in a year or so to see if that changes things at all.

One of my wishes is the LC had acoustic glass all around (that and bigger gas tank and bigger water bottle holders in the side pockets!).

Not to be different, but we seem to have NO (zero, zip, nada) wind noise from the roof rack on our FE. OTOH, we will likely never use it.
I agree. I don’t notice much wind noise, if any from the FE rack.

Same here, I was thinking on removing it and actually resourced the roof rails before I received my FE. I got my FE and the finial determining factor was actually driving it on the highway............... didn't notice any wind noise from the roof rack. The side windows did have some wind noise but nothing I am going to try and correct.

Yeah I bought cross bars from someone on the forum, I immediately took them off after driving b/c of the wind noise. Keeping them for storage for off-roading or travel or until someone comes up with a quieter solution.

Might have to try this.
