Factory/Accessory Cross Bars -Is removal quick/easy & do they come pre-installed?

I have a new 2024 Land Cruiser grade (w/ premium package and stock 18-inch wheels) arriving at the Toyota dealership next week. It comes with factory cross bars ($560 factory/port accessory). I'm told the cross bars will likely be already installed when the vehicle arrives (vs. inside the vehicle) as they are installed at port. I'd like to remove the cross bars before driving the vehicle home (it's long drive home, etc.).

--Is that indeed the case (the cross bars will be installed when the vehicle lands at the dealership)?
--If so, how easy are the cross bars to remove (what's the process, are tools needed, etc.)?

I'd like to either remove them myself (upon arrival at the dealership/before driving home) or ask the dealership to handle (but they'll likely charge me an hour of labor and I prefer handling things myself—I'm very particular).
 
I’m in the same situation. However, I fully expect the dealership to remove them during pre delivery inspection. I’m laying out a lot of money for this vehicle so they should be able to accommodate one small request.

Yes, the cross bars will be mounted to roof rails when it arrives. These are installed at the port, usually as a regional market add-on. They are easily removed and you can find information by searching this forum on the ordering and installing the little covers that cover up the open mounting points when your roof rails are removed. I also saw this video yesterday that shows how it can be done...

For cross bars it’s super simple. You should receive an allen wrench and plastic pry tool with instructions.

Pop off the covers with the plastic pry tool and unscrew with wrench. Push the screw in as you turn to help release its hold.

I noticed there are small indentations to further help placement of the bars when installed.

Should take about 5 - 10 mins.

For roof rails, the above video does the trick.

Also waiting on one with the cross bars, why do you want to remove them?
I won't use them, they add wind noise, and they rob some efficiency/mpgs. I'm happy to sell mine. Send me a DM. Or they are available from Toyota parts (accessory).

I have one on order that has them added, I wouldn't have added them if I had my pick, but I liked everything else so I agreed to buy the LC. I don't think I have even seen what they actually look like, but hopefully they aren't bad for wind noise or mpg, if they are I'll be removing them as well.

Took mine off as soon as I got home from the dealer. Took 5 minutes. They aren't particularly heavy but it helps to have someone help you lift them off the roof.

They do cause a little wind noise and create a little drag so I'm glad to be rid of them. If anyone local to Denver wants them, let me know as they will go cheap.
 
I just took mine off. Even with the screws fully loosened and pushed in, the bars did not want to lift straight up. I slid them side to side along the rail a bit and then they came right off. It's a 5mm hex head screw - FYI.

For the others, loosen the bolt and push that bolt assembly in. That action will pull (or in this case, push) the clamp to fully open. Then lift straight up.

The cross bars also have indexing pins, so they can go back in exactly the same position they were removed from.

Thanks for this. Can the cross bars be slid further apart to accommodate a 36" spread vs the 27" as they seem to be predrilled?
 
If I remember correctly, there weren't other "dimples" along the rail. Maybe just cut up a mousepad to fit something in between the rail for grip.
 
I can’t seem to find anywhere which side of the bars is the front. There is a rubber lip under them that’s biased to one side, not sure if that should be the leading edge or trailing edge
 
You are correct. The rubber lip under the cross bar is the leading edge (front) for the placement.
