Has anyone had a "EFI fuel tank additive" recommended by their dealer at service time?

I went in for the 10k tire rotation and oil change and this was recommended. They said Toyota recommends this every 10k miles or 12 months.

That's a first for me. Usually I would only use it........ if water had gotten into the tank or higher mileage vehicles to clean the injectors.

How much do they want?
Quick Google shows the Toyota brand is $22.
Since you are using premium and hopefully not filling up at a janky gas station, it’s probably unnecessary. If they only want the cost of the bottle, it can’t hurt anything, and it’ll be on your maint record. If they try to charge you more than the on-line cost of the bottle, I’d tell them to pound sand.

I use Techron in my F150, every 15-20k. Probably a waste of money. I run premium.

“They say,” what does the manual say? (Not being an ass, I haven’t looked it up.) Service writers are asked to upsell, even minor things count. “Your wiper blades look terrible, we can…” When I had my 4R, they canned my favorite service writer, he was honest and knowledgeable, he didn’t upsell bs.

Also, you should rotate your tires more often than 10k.

IIRC the owners manual under routine maintenance says that EFI cleaner is only required for vehicle in Hawaii.

It can't hurt, as others have said.
Yup, every 5k miles in Hawaii only. (I wonder why Hawaii? Because it's so humid? Because of the fuel mix?)

I read on other Toyota forums their dealers are trying to push this on them as well but can't point them to any Toyota docs saying they need it. The consensus was the SAs are making a little extra money each time they get someone to buy the service. Which really isn't a service except pouring it in your tank...lol.

My dealer was really trying to make extra money because the cost was $64.. well over SRP!

I only use premium and Tier1 brands so not worried about it.

The SA’s aren’t making extra money IME, maybe a bonus is offered, or they are just given a hard time.

The SA’s (IME) are pushed to upsell, they may even have a quota, like the sales people.

An ex worked at a Toyota dealership the 4yrs we dated. As I posted, my favorite SA got canned because he wasn’t upselling. Dealerships can be real scummy.
