Has anyone located a good tap point for DRL lights? My ditch lights and eventually my fog lights have an amber DRL backlight and I wanted to tap into the existing DRL to feed the control circuit of the relay I am going to be using to run all the extra DRL's.

Are you looking for the existing DRL wire to tap into or a 12V source?

Nothing on the headlight lights or fogs that is switched can be properly tapped into to use either the any function on the turn signal stalk or Fog light switch itself they are controlled by the Multiplex Communication System (CXPI), Power Integration System ECU and then from there onto the Semi-conductor power integration ECU which is the black box housed in the right side (facing front) fuze box in the engine bay. Anything concerning exterior lighting minus the trailer socket is also ran through the Steering Control ECU in the steering column.

Actual system is as follows from the stalk to the lights, Stalk>Steering ECU>Body Control ECU>Semi-Conductor PI ECU>Lights.

All of these are CAN or pulsed DC signals and can't be used to operate normal switches and relays, there are relays inside of the ECUs (Likely IC chips that are operated by the CXPI signal to turn these on and off.

That said the trailer socket can be tapped into though at the parking/tail function. You can also tap a headlight terminal at the Semi-Conductor power integration ECU on either connector A86 pin 8 (Black) or A88 pin 6 (Gray) these are the are the two 8 pin connectors on that ECU. The effect of tapping into that Signal is the lights will turn on with the ignition and remain on until shortly after the lights turn off when shutting the vehicle down/locking the doors, no way to control them.

Not ideal, the best solution would be to use the parking/tail light circuit at the trailer socket, otherwise you need to run your own switch and relay unfortunately.

I installed grill lights and tapped the A86 connector for now to power the LED controller. Not sure if I'll keep them or not but if so will eventually either wire to a switch and relay or get a Garmin switch Pro power switch so I can control them via the iphone app on the MID.

I have quite a dew TIS diagrams concerning the electrical for the lights as I was trying to find out if I could control the fog lights via the switch a prevent the ECU form limiting there use only when the low beam are on (I would like to be able to use the fogs with parking lights). There is no work around (outside of a CANBUS hack) unless you do a complete rewire from end to end and then not sure if that would throw a code or not?
