Hi all,

I find these dome lights rather weak and too harsh (blueish white). Plus, they throw the flood directly into your eyes (driver side).

Any options to at least replace the LED with a red/amber color?

Going for that tacticool aesthetic:

I've owned 3 of these Aviator Surefires (Blue, Green and Red) and they are super cool:

I found some folks doing this to their Tacos:

Ideally, I would like switches instead of the touch activation. Appreciate suggestions or if you've done some mods, would be interested in exploring. Thank you.

I took apart the overhead console last weekend. Unfortunately, the leds that provide the map lighting are on a PCB inside the console, and light is directed out to the reflector and lens area via some plastic light tubes.
In other words, the LEDs are not replaceable directly.
That said. It is possible some company with real resources will come up with a replacement PCB will either more or different color or switchable color LEDs…I just replaced my overhead console light in the back with an upgraded unit that simply replaces the board and goes from 4 LEDs to 12 and has two color options, so it’s possible. The PcB up front however is more
complex with all those switches and whatever.
I would like to see something like the Taco solution posted above but it would require either a new PCB with a plug or splicing, and removing the factory light tubes and maybe reflector at a minimum…
Given the relative difficulty of disassembling that whole thing without breaking something, I have my doubts we will see commercially viable solutions in the factory map lighting location.
I think a better option might be to tap power in the mirror and install some
Flush mounted lights in the headliner… or maybe on the back of the mirror if you can find the right surface mounted unit.
