I've had a couple recommendations for the FitCamX:

...both here and on FB/Meta and my end up pulling the trigger as an interim solution since it's one of those things I generally feel safer driving with.

One thing I'm really looking for in a dashcam for my LC250/1958, however, is a robust parking mode (with motion detection); my vehicle will likely be spending a significant amount of time on my front driveway and it would be nice to have the added security as well as a bit of "perimeter" security for the front of my house as well.

Questions:

Is there a dashcam out there that might accomplish this (in a relatively non-intrusive fashion)?

What are the main complaints/shortcomings of the OEM dashcam (which I think already has a forward camera/port built into the rearview mirror itself)?

Any info/advice would be much appreciated!!

Look at the Donger Pro power adapter that's a member here on the forum. I bought one and it's great. You can set a full time park mode or a timed park mode and it hooks up to the rearview mirror/overhead console power. I believe it also has an automatic low battery cut-off. I think some people had some trouble with park modes draining battery so I haven't tested park mode yet but I meant to do a search of the prior discussion I saw.

Thanks - yeah I was reading through one of their threads today.

Is the camera lens on the back of the rearview mirror for an OEM dashcam?

I like the Thinkware U3000 (or u1000). Got it as a gift for a family member and I’m a bit envious of their fancy parking mode compared to my Blackview (I chose Blackview for the SIM card option at the time but with a battery even I get like a day of parking.). The parking mode using radar lasts several days, upwards of 30 or so. They talk about it a bit here on their support page https://support.thinkware.com/hc/en-us/articles/21305282643859-RADAR-Parking-Mode

I tried to look past the niceness of having the Toyota installed dashcam utilizing the built in cameras because I figure if the quality and/or battery life isn’t there than it’s not worth the cosmetic advantage and gives a false sense of safety anyway.
Then again, maybe more dependent on assumed use case.

Again, for me, I won’t be not driving it more than a couple days so Blackview for me with the SIM card was the way to go since I was already in their ecosystem. But the camera I have (970 something) is huge compared to the u3000 and highly considering switching for that radar parking mode.

Good luck!

I just got the U3000 - my Dongar Pro already showed up earlier this week so once the dashcam shows up I'll have to start figuring out installation.
