Yesterday, my girl friend and I went over to Knoxville to an exotic wood warehouse to purchase wood for her business. After loading up 300-400 pounds of five foot long boards in the back of Miss Daisy, I entered the next location that we were going to in Knoxville into my iPhone, but it was no longer ‘signed in’ and did not show the screen that allowed me to choose the Pandora station, or the apple CarPlay button on the left of the screen. So, I went to settings, clicked on my iPhone to tell Toyota to let me choose my iPhone for CarPlay, and it is not there. Anywhere.

So I used the Toyota navigation stuff. It was horrible. Took me to the wrong address for both businesses that we had to go to next. So I had to use the iPhone maps app to get me there.

Then, I entered the address of where we need to go home to, and it actually took me 1/2 a mile beyond our driveway, to go into a subdivision that had no access to our home.

That same thing has happened to me on a few occasions, Somewhere in the settings is a screen that asks you about the iphone for calls, etc....... I think I selected the 3rd one in the list, can't remember right now and it's raining something fierce! I discovered that if I press any button on the phone or the infotainment screen before the radio fully boots, I have issues. I haven't had any issues since I started waiting for the radio to finish booting before I press any button (or touch screen)

The third option, which is the one that made it all work, is no longer a choice.

I’ll try again.

From time to time CarPlay doesn’t handshake with the car’s infotainment. It’s been that way with every car I’ve had, so I figure the issue is in the phones.

The easiest solution, if you can do it safely, is to stop the car, open and close the door so the infotainment system shuts off, and start the car again. Usually CarPlay will connect the second time.

I haven’t had any issues yet, but our previous car with a screen didn’t even have CarPlay and it had trouble linking Bluetooth in a timely manner.

I also usually use the USB cord to “hardwire” my phone into the system so maybe that contributes to a more reliable link?

As EOD Guy said… repair. Worked for me and it has seemed to work a lot better (consistent) since.

Mine certainly tweaks from time to time, won’t connect, suddenly stops mid-drive, etc. but oddly enough and I forgot about this until I saw this post… I have a fishing hole that I enjoy (when the trout are biting) but when I’m within roughly 3 miles of that place the whole system shuts off every single time. Disconnects and will not reconnect no matter what… I wonder if there could be correlation to that mystery?

Pressing and holding the volume button restarts the infotainment system and you can re-pair phone then without having to stop vehicle.

Just go to your phone in Toyota infotainment, it will show your phone connected.

Select the phone and the 3rd option is something like “use for CarPlay”

Once you touch that it will work.

Our trucks are supposed to work via Bluetooth, without the USB hardwire.

I realize that, sometimes I just let it go wireless. The phone charges better on the wire, so I might as well hardwire to the infotainment too in that case.

What password?
Your infotainment password. You should have had to enter one when you first got your vehicle. If your battery ever gets disconnected your going to need it to get the infotainment to work.

There ore three USB ports up there. The one on the left is for ‘data’. The other two are for charging (I think).
