Just a heads up to others who might run into this issue.
I have a iPhone 14, which until this weekend was still back on iOS 16. I am not a big fan of Apple iOS upgrades unless it must be done. Due to all the recent issues with iPhone and Android phone hacking, I went ahead and upgraded. Since Mid November 2024, my LC250 had worked perfectly with Apple Play. I had a few issues getting the Sirrus XM to connect, but that was fixed.

After the iOS upgrade, I was in the truck on starting it I noticed I no longer could connect to Apple Play, Sirrus was there but when I went to Apple Play under sources, all I got was a Toyota Subscription screen. I knew I did not need to subscribe to anything else. I also noticed I did not have a bluetooth connection. (Icon was not blue). After trying to reconnect via the iPhone settings, I gave up. No matter what I did, no connection. I removed the iPhone and tried to start over.

The first time I start the process all I was able to get connect was bluetooth, even with a correct pairing, Apple Play would not reload and all I had on the screen when it was selected was the Toyota Subscription screen. Interesting, I could ask play music I selected 2nd option (I believe that is the bluetooth one right above Apple Play), but there was still no option for Apple Play. Ask Siri worked for phone calls and if I asked it to play something. And the truck showed connected to bluetooth.

This so far had taken about an hour of trouble shooting. With no ability to get to Apple play, (still not even listed as an option). I removed the phone again, rebooted the phone, killed the engine and restarted the phone and truck. Went through the discovery process again (for about the 4th time) and this time after pairing, I was asked if I wanted to enable Apple car play. First time I had gotten the option. I selected it and went through the install process once again. This time I was good and got the Apple Play icons.

With my 2010 4-runner, I always had issues with that bluetooth connection with either a iOS upgrade or new phone. I realize that truck was 15 years old but I eventually got it working. There was no Apple play option for it. Only the old Entune.

So if you run into this, on an upgrade of iOS, my steps may work. So far since I reconnected, No issues. But I am not planning on any more major iOS upgrades.
