I don't know that it's just Toyota. My experience with Ford is awful as well. Maybe CarPlay itself is just lousy. You're WAY better off with a proper iPad or other tablet mounted elsewhere that just sends audio to the head unit.

Sorry to hear you're having issues! My wife and I both use the prado and connect to carplay and has worked perfectly!

I just admit something must have been updated in the past 2 weeks and finally it’s been connecting automatically just like it’s supposed to. Happy early Christmas?

I had an issue yesterday,, after connecting with apple maps, the radio would not produce any sound. After a couple of hours I managed to fix it. Toyota put a secret knob on the dash and when you rotate it counter clock wise the volume returns........... 
.......... I had forgotten I'd turned the volume all the way down when I was testing some switch installs.........ROTFLMAO!
