I remember in Dec 2023 the gx 460s were almost 10k off and could be had for 52 plus tax. I know that in terms of fun factor the lc is in a whole different category
Offroad wise they are pretty much the same as both having center and I believe rear lockers with the Lexus coming with kdss

The transmission is the weak spot of gx460 with only 6 speed being available. But the v8 sounds great and is bullet proof
Then there is the luxury aspects and fit and finish of the interior which is also superior to the new Gx
I had very little seat time with the gx460 and just purchased the lc 1958 so can’t really compare them objectively.
Please provide your feedback you have switched from gx460 to lc

These 2 trucks in my opinion are direct competitors due to both being prado platforms. As for me personally I would get bored of the gx in a week but looking at the offroad/onroad/ build quality I think a lightly used 460 is objectively a better choice at ~50k mark

I came from a GX460 (2015). At 76k miles it started misfiring which turned out to be the valves in the passenger side head and would have been over a $12k repair bill. This was an immaculate vehicle, looked new inside and out, never towed or beat on and maintained per the manual at the dealer. Nobody could figure out why the valves went bad other than a possible bad casting and bad luck.

Loved driving it and loved the sound of the V8. That said, going up a canyon I always had to give it the beans to downshift, it didn't have enough gears and you have to rev the V8 to get the power. The LC is much nicer to drive power wise and I find that I don't even think about power when navigating canyons, passing, etc. I know everyone is worried about reliability of the turbo but the GX has a fair amount of things that need to be taken care of as it ages and as my experience illustrates even the venerable V8 can have significant problems.

The tech was awful/non existent in the GX & the sound system was terrible. The interior felt very plush and well made and it still looked new after 10 years and 76k miles, heated seats worked great, and I loved the third row. I doubt the LC interior will hold up as well but time will tell. GX felt more damped noise wise, but I find the LC to be very nice to drive as well and not at all loud or noisy. Looks wise I like them both, one is more retro but the GX sure looks good with the right wheels and tires.

Happy to comment more specifically if you have questions about any other aspecs.

thanks for the feedback. In terms of ride quality do you notice or miss the kdss?

That's a great question. It's tricky because I didn't drive them back to back. But I'm confident in saying the GX460 had a softer and more 'compliant' ride while the LC is slightly firmer and more controlled although not harsh. The LC is much nicer IMHO to drive in the twisties and feels more sporty and controlled.

Interesting thread.

When the 200 was discontinued, I had been driving a 100 series for about 20 years and was ready to replace it. But I was never a big fan of the 200 and certainly not once the post-discontinue, price spike kicked in. During that brief window before Toyota started to hint that the LC would return to the US, I considered the GX 460. However, I never liked the basic styling of the older Prados, especially after Lexus stylists added their usual garish touch. Plus, it was so long in the tooth by that point and I just couldn’t part w the 100 in order to pay for a new but aging (& ugly) 460. Once Toyota started to confirm the 250 was coming and after the Aug 23 press release, I knew that I would just wait and get the LC 250.

Taste is certainly personal. I love the look of a GX460 with wheels, tires and tint - they just look clean. But I do think the LC250 looks better and embodies the best elements of the FJ40 and other iconic Toyota 4x4s'.

The GX460 has a 6 speed.

I haven't driven one, but other than the V8, it isn't very compelling for me. Low hanging bumpers, integrated running boards, swing door, generally a bizarre combination of shapes.

Had a 2017 GX460 for several years and honestly minus the plush leather i kind of prefer our 1958 for some odd reason probably because tech wise their is not a disparity between the two and body wise the new gen is IMHO better for modding and off-roading, Engine wise the 1UR-FE V8 in the GX is antiquated and underpowered for an 8 (could also be read as reliable) and the turbo hybrid despite sounding like the 4 banger it is better around town and 0-60 than the outgoing GX.
Guess you would not go wrong either way!
