New guy here. 2025 LC350 1958. I recently had a 4runner which i got a wild hair and traded for a GR corolla. super fun little car, but pretty impractical for my needs. so i took a bit of a hit and traded again for a landcruiser. I do miss and regret getting rid of the 5th gen, and i'm hoping the LC can fill some of the void. comparing and contrasting the two have been interesting. I'm loving the powertrain. of all the gripes i've been hearing and reading about it, none of them really bother me. but again, i'm comparing it to what amounts to a 15-16 year old motor and transmission in the 4runner. I live in utah where we have hills and wind and the 4runner was never happy. i barely saw 5th gear (that's all it had!), 4th was where it stayed to deal with the elevation. 14mpg combined was pretty standard. i guess the positive is that it would have gone 300,000 miles, so only time will tell with the LC.
my LC motor is quiet, and smooth, the power and almost instant TQ off idle is a HUGE improvement over the 4runner. sure it takes 91+, but even with that i think my gas costs will be lower... AND i have a ton more power.
some gripes: my first drive was in a snow storm and the front sensors got snow on them... 5 minutes into the drive and my dash lit up like a christmas tree with all kinds of errors and warnings. i eventually spent enough time (while driving on the freeway in a snowstorm, lol distracted) turning off all the electronic nannies in the dash to eventually get all the lights to stop flashing at me (all in the name of safety i suppose).
my toyota app wont stay signed in on my iphone, and the same with my apple watch. anytime i go to start the car from my watch, i have to sign in on my phone. well at that point, i'm just starting it from my phone. which basically renders the app on the watch useless. speaking of the app, none of the settings save. if i start the car via the key fob, the heated wheel and seats and climate come on (i'm assuming because that was my last setting when i left the car). if i start it via the app, the drivers side heated seat won't come on. i've gone in the climate control tab on the app and tried to save these settings multiple times to no avail. oh and my most recent start via the app, the nav/radio screen was just black. i had to reset it.
speaking of heated seats, i've read the gripes on them. mine seem to be intermittent. one minute i cant feel them, the next i'm receiving 2nd degree burns.
my second freeway drive i got absolutely NAILED by a rock off a dump truck on the windshield and i thought for sure i was going to need a windshield replacement 200 miles in, but much to my surprise, it didn't crack.
she rides rough. much rougher than the 4runner. our roads are complete shit, but i'm kind of surprised there's a noticeable difference between the two trucks. the suspension on the LC is very crashy. also, my hatch seems to be loose.... or something. when i hit a bump the rear hatch shudders against the body. it's really weird. i've looked at the rubber strikers to see if they were adjustable like they are on hoods but they were not. so not entirely sure what to do about that.
also, since the rear seats don't latch anywhere near the shoulder area against the body of the truck, they also bounce around while on rough roads. so for now, i just have them folded down.
overall i can feel the cost cutting measures on the LC. the doors feel thin and hollow, the windows are kind of loose in the tracks when half rolled down, the electronics seem a bit wonky at times. i've got rattles in more places than a $60k car with 500 miles should have... i'm definitely getting that old school experience haha.
ALL that being said, i'm still enjoying the vehicle. it's pretty relaxing (as long as the roads aren't too rough) to drive compared to the 4runner. that thing felt like it was straining a lot. I like the looks of it, don't mind the simplicity of the 1958 trim. I also threw on some 18" TRD wheels from the new tacoma with some Wildpeak at4's after having good luck with them on my 4runner.
some pics of the LC, corolla and 4runner.
