It's a feature of the turbo diesel engines, increases the revs at idle to warm up the engine faster if it's very cold or increase alternator output if you're winching or something. Models with gas hybrid engines wouldn't need it I'd imagine.

I live in "Prado country"... all our LC250's are 2.8 Turbo Diesel non hybrids badged as "Land Cruiser Prado". So far there are very few LC250's in the country and the dealers don't have part numbers on these badges, but I'll post them here if/when they get them to me.

Thanks for this info, even though the 20" wheels are much more elaborate than the 18" that's an astonishing amount of extra weight. 40+lbs of extra unsprung rotating mass is huge!

A bit of vaseline (petroleum jelly) rubbed in with a cloth will probably make it less noticeable, but obviously not remove it entirely.
