From what I know some had the piston slap and some did not(at the dealership) or some had it worse than others. It sounded like they may end up doing a recall. Time will tell though.
Alright…finally got an answer. The service advisor said it’s piston slap. Bad tolerances.
Toyota is also picking up my vehicle (lemon law-buy back) the dealership probably next week. Waiting to hear back from a carrier.
Did see the vehicle too. They have the hood resting on the roof. A new...
That radiator runs sooo low. They tried to keep everything center and by doing so they had to make it tall. This will be one issue the off-road community will have to take into account. Will need better skids for sure.
When people make statements about their trucks make certain noises and they are concerned when they don’t hear things or “as long as the LC starts when I push the button”. Makes it seem like I’m trying to make something out of nothing. That’s all. Comes off weird. Maybe everyone has the best...
In my opinion. What I was hearing was not “normal”. Loud direct injection is one thing. I think majority of yall are confused on the sound it was making. If it sounds like a shitbox going down the road then it’s not for me (sounds like a bad head gasket). Especially when it cost $70k. Ffs, if...
There’s multiple people that have the same sound when engine is cold. I just took mine in for it.
Buy back is a go. I just today gave them my financing institution. Account number and sales contract (even though they said they had it in the last email). Supposedly it takes 30 days for...
How did you come to that conclusion. What if the tech called Toyota and their Engineer told the tech to tear it apart. Just curious on what information you have that would lead you to determine it was the wrong thing to do. Unless you are working there I don’t know how you can come to that...
I think most of my comment around knock have been met with “question mark?” After it. Like “engine knock?” I’ve called out many times I thought it was an exhaust leak. The mechanics tore the engine down because of the sound.
engine knock noise
I also don't think this sounds like an injector. But... I have been wrong before. To me is sounds like an exhaust leak but I was told it was a cylinder 1 issue. Still waiting on official word back from Toyota Product Engineering.
Would laugh my butt off if it's an injector.
Why would a noisy injector get less noisy as the engine warms up? There is injector noise but there is also this other thing in this thread that we don’t believe is injector noise. Waiting to hear back from Toyota on the actual issue.
It’s that because everyone wrote it off as a “normal” noise like everyone is doing with this engine? I’m saying they are the same but just that second hand guessing doesn’t help the situation. I’m trying to get them to tell me what the cause of failure is. I even told them..”even if that means...
The same odds that cause 100K engines to be recalled. I"m not saying it's the same but the odds are in our favor considering multiple people. Not just myself or this dealership have had this sound.

I assure you it's true. You are more than welcome to come to my dealership and see my car torn apart. Corwin Toyota of Colorado Springs in Colorado. Black LC Trim with the brown interior. Hell... I'll even show ya'll the email where Toyota is buying it back from me.
Just got an update that Toyota is ordering a short block and it's on order for a September 13th-15th arrival. I just asked again if there was a determination on what the issue was. Waiting to hear back still.
I'll let you know. Hoping the 3.0L raptor engine is a little better built. No engine...
i'm working lemon law with the regional office in Denver, CO. I'm waiting to hear about what next steps are. They received the contract info from the dealership. So.. I'm doing my best to check-in for ya'll but i'm out of the LC game for a few years until they have all the gremlins figured out...
Not much of an update yet from my dealership. I reached out again today and this is the response I got.
"Hi Brandon, just called Toyota. They are still waiting to hear back from the Product Engineer. Unfortunately, he does not have an ETA yet."
Hey ya'll. I was told that I would hear back from the service manager today. I checked in late yesterday afternoon. I'll give them a call again today in between meetings to see what's up and report back.
I did get this though via text... "Hi Brandon the engineer came by took photo's examined...
This has Toyota fanboy written all over it. copy and paste of how engines work to gain credibility, not fully reading/understanding what is going on with the situation...just to say I won't like the LC because you are playing it off as "normal". FFS, I didn't tell them to tear apart my engine or...
I know their are some engines built at Hino due to the issue of previous model engine issues coming out of that plant. I don't know if Tahara makes engines.
weird that it says "uphill". I wonder if that's a gravity fuel delivery thing. though you'd think the spray would be pressurized enough to account for that.
I was told that when the engine heats up that metal expands cleans up the slop essentially. I'm no engine mechanic but just relaying here. And yes. I'm pretty sure it's the rod bearing.
"the engineer removed fuel from each cylinder to locate which cylinder the noise was coming from. When removing fuel from cylinder 1 the noise went away. This lead to a total tear down of the engine (in pictures). The engineer is thinking bad universal bearing in the block. There were metal...
are you? Because that same sound was tracked down to my engine cylinder 1 issue. engine torn down in pics on post 1. I'd say taking it to your dealer to have them diagnose it would be a better option.
