Sounds like you have struggled with this problem too. The kludgy door mount is a hard no from me.
I chose the LC over the other vehicles available for several reasons. I never imagined that Toyota would make the LC with specific towing features as standard and then overlook a basic safety...
I suppose fitting mirrors from another vehicle might work although that's a can of worms I don't want to deal with. If someone else showed exactly how to do it then I might reconsider.
Agreed that etrailer is a good source for towing supplies but they have nothing. CIPA is one of the manufacturers I contacted. The strap type extension mirrors do not fit the large, blocky LC mirrors. Nor do the clamp-on style.
No responses here after two weeks. I did contact two aftermarket manufacturers who did not think any of their universal mirrors would fit, and the Toyota Brand Engagement Center said they have never offered towing mirrors for Land Cruisers and have no plans for the 2024 model.
I pointed out to...
I got the Carista Evo on sale and it works well to remove seat belt alerts after the first five. The code scan looks at 31 ECUs--looking back our '81 Jeep had one computer!--and takes several minutes. There were 15 faults, most having to do with communications, and it cleared 14 of them. There...
Is the dashcam any good? Well, it does the job okay and is easy to use. You can certainly get better ones for the same cost plus installation. I find it adequate for my needs and like that it just works without fanfare. There are a couple of useful features: press the Action button to protect a...
The dashcam is on the left side so the driver can easily see and operate the controls. I quickly became used to it being there and have not experienced any line-of-sight problems.
Has anyone found a side mirror extension that works on the blocky stock mirrors? I've tried a couple of types--straps and screw down--and they do not fit or stay in place. Ideal would be a custom fit snap-on mirror but there is nothing I could find.
Can the annoying chimes be turned off by the owner? I've looked everywhere and no previous Toyota techniques work. The Carista OBD2 device may be an answer but it costs.
I can find many "cargo covers" in the Toyota catalog for other models that look like the right item. They all say, "May not fit your selected vehicle." No "tonneau covers" are listed for the Land Cruiser. Of course the parts listed for owners may not be as current as the dealer's system.
I had the dealer swap 265/70-18 KO3s onto our 1958 model. That's the best fit for the stock 7-inch rims and look good. The dealer even gave a credit for the all-season stock tires.
No cargo cover on my 1958 either. Nor is one specific to the Land Cruiser available from Toyota parts. Hard to believe they overlooked such a standard safety and security feature.
