Getting 22.5mpg after 15,000 miles on the odo... still on the 265/65r18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Not too bad. That's also with the addition of roof rails and (occasionally) Thule wingbars.
Folks should also look at the delete kits for the 4Runner and Rav4 because they look nearly identical to the Land Cruiser kit at a fraction of the cost. Figured someone would've tried them by now. You'd just need to buy two kits to account for the six roof rail covers/brackets on the LC vice...
Can't recommend the 1Up enough. Get the add-on kit for however many bikes you need to haul. Super sturdy and fits big bikes with long wheelbases (like an XL Raaw).
The dealer is likely only looking at the roof basket itself and not the rails. If you have a 1958 you'll need the side rails as well. You can get either the raised roof rails from higher-end LC trims and GXs or the flush rails from just one of the GX trims. I put the raised rails on my 1958 -...
I noticed zero difference going from the delete kit (no rails) on my 1958 to having rails installed. When I attach the Thule crossbars, that's when the noise shows up. The side mirrors on these things seem to create the most noticeable noise at speed.
Fwiw, I'm using Thule Crossroads 450R feet...
No, I snagged the rails from a forum members. I was checked out the Chinese knockoffs that are flooding ebay and Amazon right now, but there were too many horror stories of the Tacoma equivalents not fitting right.
Haven't driven with the rails on yet; letting the silicone sealant cure before...
I added the OEM roof rails to my 1958 this afternoon. Install took about an hour. I got the rails used from a forum members, and since the foam/mastic on the contact points around the bolt holes is supposed to be single-use, I put black RTV silicone around them and on the bolt threads. Hoping it...
Super smooth at highway speeds, only thing I don't like is the noise from the stupid Ridge Grapplers the dealer installed. Nice looking rubber, but I'll definitely be putting a less aggressive tread on when they're used up.
