This seems to be a common theme with those shopping Toyota. The expectation of keeping a car a decade or more. Certainly aligns with my goals for my next car. But not only do people say they’re shopping for a long term car, many here live it as they’re trading in decode old 4R’s & even 2000’s...
Put me down for ‘keep’. That is if you have the space for two vehicles & don’t need the money out of your FJ to go to your LC. It might actually be worth a bit of money, but once you sell it you won’t get it back.
I have to agree with what a quality forum this really is. I’m on a few of them, most are quite good, but in general pickup truck forums seem to be a little more mixed of a crowd & therefore have greater potential for things to go sideways & that community spirit to not form as much. I suspect...
I wondered this too & yes BS. I know federally it’s $100K. Which sounds like a lot, but in this day & age it’s not hard to get a ‘normal’ new car to $100K.
These are the ones I use here. We have very few options other than standard here, but this one is worth buying. No customization options though, they’re just issued sequentially.
It seems the first batch sent must be 1958s as I see them advertised on marketplace all the time from Edmonton it seems though. $88k. They must be requiring you to buy every warranty & true coat to get to that figure. Because that’s what I thought I could get a premium for.
I wish every manufacturer used this. It’s about as simple & reliable as keyless entry can get. Not quite the article I recall, but does explain a bit.
Apparently GM tried to make a version too. I too don’t know why every manufacturer doesn’t have this option, the keypad itself is often...
Value is definitely relative & it all depends on your situation & what you plan to do with it. I’m not a base model shopper though as I see value in spending extra on a vehicle I’d hope to have 10+ years (or I wouldn’t need to investigate Toyotas). There are upgrades on this list I’d probably...
This is what I see in the rectangular headlights. I like them! Everybody else does round, obviously because at the time all headlights were round. Square is kind of a unique retro look to lean into for the LC.
Should I decide on an LC, I’d definitely go premium. Particularly if you like & want the java brown. The extra cost amortized over the life of the vehicle is small & as someone pointed out above, you’ll get it back at resale time. Assuming of course you’re not maxed out going LC over 1958...
I have to agree. There’s very few YouTube videos I can even get through one of. His I can watch everything put out. His knowledge & enthusiasm for Toyotas surely has contributed to my seriously considering one (LC, 4R, or GX) for my next one.
I can’t say on the LC specifically as I’m not really familiar with what a port option is. But my experience on other cars is bolt on ‘accessories’ like the skid plates & roof racks you mention can definitely be done at the dealer. I’m sure they’ll only be too happy to sell you that stuff &...
Thanks for a great write up! That’s probably my main concern in researching my next vehicle. Balancing a good city car that can do alright in the tight spaces with something large enough to enjoy a road trip in.
I’m really wanting back into a ‘truck’ & Toyota makes the only BOF midsize SUV’s. At least fixed roof ones. Ford won’t sell me an Everest here. Full size are perhaps just a little large for going around the city with but I do find them comfortable.
So considering LC, GX, &4R. I go back &...
Thanks for asking the question. I’ve always skipped moon roofs for exactly your concerns, even if unfounded fears in my case. Why tempt fate by cutting a hole in a perfectly good roof? But it seems when you don’t order a car to spec if you want a trim with everything else you’re getting the...
I loved the color in person! Though I thought it was less yellow than I was expecting, more that muted sand / pale gold you describe. I’m surprised on build & price it’s not available with the java interior though. That seems to be an obvious color combo to me!
You have your choice of Toyota or Toyota here. Your friendly local Toyota dealer will happily put you behind the wheel of whatever 4R or LC they can get. Or you can travel to the nearest Lexus dealer for a GX.
Sadly nobody else is playing in this space. Ford or Jeep will offer you a Bronco...
