    Apple car play inconsistency

I have the same experience when starting normally. But, even though, it might display the Toyota dashboard, the CarPlay icon is displayed at the top of the left side menu. Thus, I haven’t been bothered by that whereas I’ve had vehicles where it sometimes takes much longer for CarPlay (wired or...

    MPG

Sure. I don’t plan to drive like an mpg extremist either. But the EPA City test does employ an extremely conservative driving style. And a number of forum members (but not me) have complained because they are not achieving the posted city and / or combined rating. It is those individuals who...

    MPG

Though we can be guilty for being overly simplistic & unhelpful by saying, “learn to drive more efficiently”, we can be equally guilty by blaming Toyota or assuming a defective unit when we fail to achieve an EPA figure that we haven’t bothered to fully understand. It was that latter point that...

    MPG

For those struggling with fuel economy & expectations, you might spend some time digging into the test procedure required by the EPA. As shown on the below image (from Detailed Test Information), the max acceleration rate is extraordinarily modest for the "city test". In fact, you can look at...

    MPG

Need to correct myself. The car maker does the testing following the EPA’s specific methodology and submits the data to the EPA. The EPA will confirm about 15% of all submitted results.

    MPG

Toyota (as do other manufacturers) has an asterisk by the mpg figures that explains their source and purpose. It’s a shame that you didn’t bother to read it (much less the information at the EPA’s site) before buying and placing misguided reliance on the ratings. No one has ever said that a...

    MPG

What did you expect to achieve by writing Toyota? First of all, the published ratings are estimates by the EPA. Secondly, the EPA explicitly states that the estimates are for comparison purposes and that actual results will vary for many reasons, including driving conditions, style, etc. You’re...

New to Land Cruiser - braking is "interesting"

It may not be a Porsche under braking, but the new LC sure brakes mo better than my old 100 series.

Anyone compare the LC to the Tundra?

In my experience, you really can’t compare the overall ownership of an LC vs a Tundra. I had a ‘12 Tundra for 10 years and a ‘02 LC for 22 years. They are completely different vehicles. If you need a truck, get a truck. If you need a Ute, get a Ute. I think it’s a mistake to buy & drive a...

Not getting the right mileage per gallon

For the small display, the table on p652 lists it as an option (consistent with my finding on my 1958) while p98’s narrative description omits it as an available choice. For the large display, you have a reverse contradiction. The choice is omitted from the table on p654 but included within the...

How to remove front air dams?

Perhaps as an aid to anyone reading this later, I think the 3rd piece is that shown at about 18:40 in the Car Care Nut’s video on the LC (see forum section containing videos)

Not getting the right mileage per gallon

Check page 109 of the manual. It lists it as an option for the larger display. Interestingly, the manual doesn’t reference the tank average option on page 98 for the smaller display, but I’m using it on my 1958. That said, it would be nice to learn that the 1958 has sole claim to a feature! ;)

    Do you use Tank Average?

For those concerned about fuel mileage, have you tried using the Tank Average setting? Personally, I find it more helpful (vs a more cumulative average) in trying to see if & why my mileage is improving. Within My Settings in the multi-information display, you can change the type of fuel...

Not getting the right mileage per gallon

Note that within My Settings in the multi-information display, you can change the type of fuel economy average that is displayed. I think there are 3 choices: average since last stop (ie a trip average), average since last fillup (ie a tank average), and average since the user last manually...

    High Mileage on Startup

I haven’t noticed the mileage that you described. But the dash (on my 1958) does briefly display a wrench at initial startup. I haven’t thought to glance at the odometer then but I wonder if the remaining miles to first service is displayed during the wrench

Not getting the right mileage per gallon

As noted above, you should refer to the other thread. The city (and thus the combined too) EPA mark is harder to achieve. I’ve seen averages of 21-22 in town, but also 16-17. It really depends on the exact nature of the “city” driving and thus how much you’re able to avoid using the turbo (which...

Not getting the right mileage per gallon

Averaged 19mpg when towing a UHaul trailer (approx 2000lbs) for 400 miles. And then averaged 25.5 driving back w/o the trailer. Around town driving will vary greatly. Try to minimize use of the turbo. You have a boost gauge for the turbo. Keep an eye on it if you want to improve mileage.

Interesting article into how are hybrid system operates

My LC starts the gas engine upon my applying a certain amount of throttle. It is not merely based on the vehicle moving. Stopped and with the engine having shut off, I can release the brake and the vehicle will roll using the electric motor. Sometimes I can apply the slightest bit of throttle...

Virgin Towing Experience Charlotte To The Smoky's

At least when using the 4-pin connector, you can use the adaptive cruise control (and the accompanying lane assist) in tow/haul mode. On Friday, I pulled a full 5x8 UHaul trailer from AL to NC averaging 19mpg at 70mph. Not the same load nor elevation gain as that for the OP but good to know that...

    Only getting 17mpg

Towed a full 5x8 U-Haul trailer from AL to NC. Averaged over 19mpg at 70mph in tow/haul mode. I was pleased. Granted, it wasn’t an overly heavy load (maybe 2000lbs) and there was no significant elevation change, but the LC pulled it effortlessly and I probably could have operated in normal or...

LOOKING AT LC 1958 THIS WEEKEND

There are pros / cons between cloth and softex but I certainly disagree with the view that softex is an upgrade. It’s basically vinyl. Again, that might be advantageous for a given buyer but the cloth shouldn’t be viewed comparatively as budget spec. On that note, when I bought a ‘12 Tundra w...

Torn - Discounted 1958 (under MSRP) or LC trim

The only regret I have in buying the 1958 is the lack of roof rails. I’d like the ability to carry skis, a SUP and a Xmas tree, but I don’t want a shopping basket on the top and the availability of non-accessory parts for the new LC is still in its infancy. As to the Softex, it’s hard for me to...

What to do about the horn?

I haven’t heard my horn in the 1958. Can’t recall how the horn sounded in the 100 series that I drove for the previous 22 years. In Alabama, women might horn someone. Men tend to know that such activity is asking for escalation.
