Anyone find a rating for the tow points on the vehicle? I'm making sure to have a bridle so that two points would always be used. But I'm wondering if higher rated recovery points are worthwhile.
The choice in the back is to either used the receiver or the two tow points. The receiver is rated...
Nice. Toyotas previous "400W" inverter was only 100W when driving. So the LC inverter is a big step up.
A rather weird thought is that the generator/inverter could provide substantial engine-like braking on a long mountain downhill. All the watts put through the inverter no longer need to be...
I think the 20" wheels are fine for snow tires if you never air down in winter.
I ended up with 285 on 17 inch wheels because I wanted C rated tires. I would have been fine with 265 but no "C". 7" rims have limited tire choices, plus when I looked at the 1958 takeoffs I could not buy 5...
ACC cuts off on a timer, 20 minutes? Also on low voltage. Toyota wants you to have the car on for longer term use of the features
The hybrid system does not maintain the 12V battery in ACC mode.
I don't think Dissent was comfortable about how to connect the winch. But you are right that even a smaller winch would pull more than 200 amps under high load.
the dissent winch wiring
In multi vehicle accidents, modern vehicles' size and weight > crash test rating. People driving lighter vehicles don't want to hear that reality. Take a look at the recent video of the 7000lb Rivian destroying road barriers with only moderate damage to the vehicle. Now substitute that...
I feel the Pioneer Platform could be a good choice. But two concerns: 1)It ends over the moonroof. That placement may eliminate the wind deflector as an option. 2) Many Rhino Rack accessories are very expensive. Are there knockoffs of the pricey items?
A 2GA setup might be desirable if a winch on the receiver might be used. This setup would use more than a 40A breaker

I hate to be wildly optimistic, but they may have considered that some crazy owner would modify the vehicle. Yes, even without written approval of senior Toyota engineering management.
But I do note that they did not include a nut. Probably as a silent head shake of disapproval.
A winch install Youtuber said that there was a current sensor on the battery positive. I presume in the fuse box. So wiring a high current device to the fuse block instead of the battery is probably correct. Toyota likely wants to engage the hybrid to 12V charge controller when high current load...
Yes, no vehicle tracks the capacity of a starting battery. The LC tracks the volatge of the starting battery, as is shown on the actual 12V gauge. The OP's confidence that the battery fuel gauge is the 12V is lack of understanding of different battery types.
Like all vehicle the LC tracks the...
The 12V is charged by the high voltage electrical system, which is a combination of the generator and traction battery. The vehicle has a generator, not an alternator. The high voltage /hybrid system is only on when the vehicle is on. AUX is 12V only.
Despite the earned negativity, I will point out to non-owners that some of the camera views are superb for tight spaces and off roading. Even with the mirrors folded in the top down view is very useful. The ultrasonic sensors aren't need if the driver uses the camera view.
The backup camera...
I agree. The Tacoma interface looks to be a lot more usable than what I've seen so far on the LC. But I haven't explored 4 low yet. The spinning 360 view as a default is particularly bad.
Apparently the 3 peak rating comes from a European/EU requirement to certify a tire as suitable for winter use. So some companies choose to not certify some or all of their tires.
The screen is smaller, but the camera views are likely identical to the new Tacoma. There are six cameras with the premium package. The views around the vehicle are very good. However when the views are displayed and which views are default is poorly implemented by Toyota.
If Toyota simply sold the Troopy in North America they would have a large cult following today. Added to the Jeep wave would be the middle finger to Troopy owners. Instead Land Cruiser is a minor footnote to North America off road travel. The FJ Cruiser shows how poorly Toyota has judged the...
Why not a Bronco? You probably fit at your height.
Winch is a big issue on the LC. I'm not sold that the hybrid is the way to go for more adventurous vehicles. But Toyota historical reliability is a big plus..
Like almost everyone here I have a downloaded manual. Doesn't make it any less pathetic. The "explaination" for the door button is one example of just how poorly it is written. Adding one simple sentence would satisfy 98% of users: "In normal operation the Door button LED is green".
The UI of the vehicle is about as inelegant as it could be. Give it time. I also found the interior light control completely non-intuitive.
Unfortunately the 1000 pages of manual is equally bad
The R1S is overpriced and already shows a lot of depreciation.
I think the best thing about Underground is that it often comes with a brown interior. Plus as a non-metallic pinstipping and nicks may not be as concerning.
Any place that allows generators/AC allow engines to run.
It gets interesting in places that only prohibit generators. I wonder how the national park rules are written.
Anyways, running the vehicle overnight in a place that prohibits generators would be a jerk move regardless. Plus the on/off...
The vehicle doesn't do anything when turned off. Heat is presumably produced by a heat pump driven by electric motor. With HVAC on the engine will run periodically to charge the hybrid battery that powers the HVAC.
Some campgrounds have rules to avoid attracting the homeless. It's likely that...
Comment on the video. He makes a point of doing too much braking on a long downhill compared to older LC with bigger engines. But some of the braking is not using the brakes, its doing regen. Crawl control in particular, if programmed correctly, would use all the regen available before the...
It would still really impact departure angle. Even a 33" 285 that fits in the spare space isn't ideal.
For 35", a receiver mount that is removed during some months of the year will likely be the most common. 35" has a lot of impact for only increasing tire height 1 1/2".
Method has wheels on...
The hybrid battery systems tries to never be full. At full the braking characteristics of the vehicle change and it can no longer capture braking energy.
Also, the manual is wrong. That's not showing the 12V system.
