I don't know of much for unpaved trails nearby. Scenic drives:
Drive up Mount Hamilton and visit Lick Observatory. Bonus scenic drive if you keep going and then drive north to Livermore.
Patterson Pass road from Livermore to Patterson/I-5 to go see the windmills.
The road up Mount Diablo...
That is puzzling. I don't have one so I don't know what to say. On my FJ the factory ones are only held in place with gripping force, but I use Thule bars for pretty much everything I put up there -- those also only use clamping force but are built much more substantially that the stock ones..
If you're wondering if it's the fuel, and it's not too far out of the way, there's a gas state on 680 near Sunol that sells various octane fuels up to 101 w/o ethanol. I used to drive a WRX that would ping if I pushed it hard on normal fuel, that place was on my way to work and I'd add just a...
I missed the sequential option! Do you have more into on the sequence? A quick search turned up mention that they are currently in a series approaching 9ZZZ999 and will then switch to 111AAA1 some time in 2025.
I'm thinking a 1960's custom California plate would look good on a Trail Dust Land Cruiser. But it's custom, I'd have to come up with something to put on it, I don't think there's a "just give me a sequential number" option with this plate. So which one is better? Or what would you suggest...
Off topic, but do you have any shots from the front to show the poke with these wheels? It should be fine in theory, just curious to see. As I said on one of your Facebook posts, I'm thinking about those same wheels if I get stuck with 20" wheels. (Also, really appreciate your last couple...
This dash cam was designed for vehicles with much more sloped windshields where the long design isn't a problem. Someone wasn't thinking when they made it an option for the Land Cruiser's upright windshield.
As I've posted in other threads, in Japan the Land Cruiser uses the built in front and...
I have wondered about this -- for a lot of Land Cruiser drivers this is their first hybrid. Unlike a lot of hybrids I haven't seen that there's any kind of typical hybrid electric/ICE/battery charging diagram? Is that even an option? Our first hybrid had that as the default center display and...
With the way this HUD works, the windshield determines the direction of polarization, it's not possible to change it. Perhaps other manufacturers have a different implementation. Our Volvo HUD is the same as the Toyota, the projector is in the dash and projects an image up to reflect off the...
The polarization is caused by the reflection of the image off the inside of the windshield. There's nothing projector adjustments can do to change that unfortunately, it's just physics. See: Brewster's angle
I was just looking at fjcruiserforums.com, they have pretty large regions and then sub-forums. So for instance NorCal/SoCal, and then we could have a SFBay sub-forum. That might be a good general structure? Some of their regions seem maybe too large though, so I'm not sure their exact regions...
Maybe we can convince the admins to add regional forums, starting with either NorCal in general or the SFBay area if we want to be more specific? Or both? @Dragoon @El Chorizo @supersix ? (This feels like I'm summoning elder gods or something)
Also, if anyone local wants to trade first...
For the 18" wheel and a roughly 33" diameter, there don't appear to be any good pizza cutter size options that I've seen. If I'm missing something let me know, the only one I've been asked about was a roughly 32" tire, smaller than stock.
I got on a waitlist for a dealer that originally thought I might not get mine until 2025 model year. But here we are only in July and he's calling me every Friday with options. Plus other dealers have started calling me, all offering MSRP. One dealer told me he's traded most of his allocated...
It seems like we're using up all the parts.

From what I can find that's a 56 lb tire? Still I wouldn't expect that much of a hit to MPG. Is it a highway commute, or lots of stop and go, flat or hills, etc?
Yeah it's odd -- the part number doesn't show up on Toyota's web page, or any dealer web page that uses Toyota's parts web pages. But if I google it, it does show up at various dealers with their own parts web page system.
I was checking with a dealer I may be getting a Land Cruiser from and...
