I'm pretty confident that you could get away with regular in the GX for the reasons you have listed. Usually, when Lexus requires premium in a vehicle that shares a powertrain with Toyota, they give an extra 5-10hp. This one is a little confusing since it lines up perfectly with the detuned...
Looks to me like the 3rd row is ever so slightly taller than the hybrid model. If you look at the photo below, very little of the folded 2nd row seatback is exposed at the pivot point. The leading edge of the cargo area ramps up to almost meet the height of the folded 2nd row seatback.
On...
The 4Runner is built to a standard that is 15 years older. That will probably make itself known when comparing roof crush strength or side impact strength (especially in the rear positions). I expect when the 6th gen 4Runner is released, it will have similar problems depending on configuration...
That's a difference of 8.1cu.ft. The cargo area is approximately 48" wide and 40" deep. In order to get to 8.1cu.ft, for a battery that raises the floor in it's entirety, it would have to raise the floor around 7.5" upward into the cargo area to decrease the total volume by that amount. I...
This. The Land Cruiser is sending torque through an 8 speed automatic, a transfer case, a center differential, front and rear prop shafts, and front and rear differentials before the power gets to the axles. The Grand Highlander is sending power through a 6 speed automatic, a front...
This site isn’t ready for release. We are all backdooring our way into it. There’s nothing on press releases that implies that the colors will be linked to premium package.
Now that dealers can't really advertise over MSRP, due to softening of the market, they've resorted to the TruCoat and $400 nitrogen tires.
JMO, having closely watched the hot new car in a somewhat elevated market, I would walk away from anything that is over MSRP and anything that has low/no...
I'm not in the market for another year when my company car lease is up, but I'm hoping that a heritage blue LC is in the cards. I have a feeling that my frugal side will win out and I'll get another 4Runner.
I'm not seeing 12" screen as an option for the 1958. I'm not seeing any options for the 1958, TBH. Unclear if the premium package on the standard forces 20" wheels. They look standalone right now.
Yep, it is the GR Corolla. Amazing little thing. I haven’t driven the GR 86, but I had an FR-S in the past. I’m definitely more of a hot hatch guy and the kiddo fits in the back a lot better. I’ve heard great things about the 86, though.
After missing out on a Heritage Edition LC200 several years ago, I'm considering the new LC to replace my 4Runner when my company lease is up next year. I'm a big Toyota off road truck / sports car fan and have been a manufacturing engineer in automotive for many years. I do a lot of exploring...
I edited my post to not come off as harsh, but he's ultimately just an influencer that has expertise in being a mechanic. Mechanics don't often see the root cause of the failure because that isn't their job.
You are free to do what you like and spend money however you like. That said, of...
Ha, knew I was going to get that video in response.
Here's my perspective as a manufacturing and quality engineer that has been building engines and transmissions for 17 years. I've durability tested 3 new engine projects and been responsible for warranty investigation and countermeasures as...
The reason it is so clear on the 4Runner is because the steps between the gears are very large. At 70mph, your choice is to be at 2000RPM in 5th gear, 2500RPM in 4th gear, or 3200RPM in 3rd gear. If the engine can't make enough power to pull the hill in 5th or 4th, it has no choice but to jump...
Gotta remember that those trucks might not be 100% NA market vehicles. I'm more familiar with the powertrain logistics side, which ship in modules instead of being able to drive themselves but the vehicle plants likely use the same philosophy. Ex: Truck A could be headed to Middle East, B to...
JMO, if I had the slightest inkling that the design criteria of any newly released car was only the warranty period, there's zero chance that I would purchase that vehicle. I'd buy something used that had a track record of being durable.
Also, Toyota has been doing 10k OCIs for 14 years now...
The LC wasn't on the TIS last time I checked a few weeks ago. That usually hits just before cars hit the dealerships now. Back in the day, it used to be on there maybe 6 months in advance.
I plan on following the owner's manual exactly. If Toyota says 10k for non severe condition, I'll follow 10k. They built and tested the thing, so they know better than I do about how to maintain it.
My GR Corolla recommends 5k OCIs for non severe. It is a 1.6L making 300hp instead of a...
With my 4Runner now, the cruise control is just not very pleasant unless on relatively flat roads. It is a big, heavy box that has just enough power. So anytime it is loaded or on a grade or has draggy things attached, it has no choice but to kick down to 4th or 3rd gear to maintain speed...
I'm somewhat perplexed about why the weight gain was so substantial on the GX. It picked up around 550lbs going from the 150 series (~5100lbs) to the 250 series (~5650lbs). The Tacoma, going from the 120 (?) to the TNGA-F platform only picked up a couple hundred pounds. It's still around...
I think they were saying that the Sequoia was cheaped out.
The Sequoia is SRA on purpose, IMO. It differentiates it from the Tahoe and Wagoneer. Sure, not many people will off road a Sequoia, but it will tow better and selling that perception that someone could off road it is good marketing...
The LC won't have as many fancy toys (massaging seats, for example). It also has a lighter engine L4-T versus the V6-TT which is ~100lbs difference. Battery and electric motor will offset some of that, though.
JMO, but I don't think we will see a 3rd row version in the US. If you need a 3rd row, the non-hybrid 4Runner, GX, and Sequoia offer that. Need FT 4WD, too? The GX and 4Runner Limited trim can cover that.
There's already a lot of overlap between the 4Runner, LC, and GX; I don't know that...
8AT or CVT will way outperform a 6MT. When I bought my 6MT Corolla hatchback, the best I could do was around 34mpg on a tank. CVT cars were pulling 38-40mpg. I live in a hilly area, so that exacerbated the difference, but I think we are beyond the time of manuals doing better than automatics...
