Did you try to back one off to see if there is a retainer mechanism built into the nut/stud? It is possible that those nuts aren't designed to create clamping force on the fabric liner. They just need to be in place to keep the liner in place -- much like a push pin style retainer clip.
Any more pics? I recommended the same setup to my brother for his LC. I said he should powdercoat them gray to match the roof, though. I think it will really pop.
Yakima has their EXO system that essentially does a double decker hitch carrier. The lower level can be a cargo basket and the upper level can be bike trays. Unfortunately, I only see provisions for 2 bikes. There doesn't seem to be a 3 bike version.
It is completely what you'd expect to find when the engine is first run in. IMO, a blackstone analysis that early doesn't tell us anything because the oil is literally brand new. It hasn't even had a chance to really become contaminated with anything but some metal debris. It is like asking...
Youtube really is the death of expertise. The algorithms prioritize engagement over accuracy. Telling everyone that some common knowledge is wrong is a great way to get engagement. Item X is known for ... well, here's one that wasn't! Click, share, subscribe.
We have a...
If this is causing you mental anguish, I'd recommend getting a different model that has a track record. We can't tell you what is going to go wrong because no one here knows. It might be perfect, it might be a disaster.
Also, as a manufacturing quality engineer, there are a lot of ways for...
The camera is added by the distributor as a port installed option (PIO). The dealership paid the distributor for the car and thus paid for the camera as installed. The dealership isn't going to remove it for you AND not charge you for an accessory that they've already paid for. Even if they...
Depends on the percentages. If they can improve fuel efficiency by 10% by tuning everything for 93 or 94 and the yield difference is only 1%, it's a win. If yield drops by 5% and the efficiency improvement is only 3%, then it wouldn't be worth it. I don't work in that industry, so I can't...
Potential energy is the same, but there is loss of efficiency turning the energy in the fuel into actual motion. That's all impacted by valve timing and spark timing, both of which are variable based on environmental and fuel conditions. If the knock resistance is better, the ECU can be more...
Much like airbags, the systems shouldn't kick in unless they are needed. If the tires didn't skid, ABS wasn't needed.
If you now have a flat spot on your tires, then your ABS was supposed to kick in and didn't.
If you don't have a flat spot on your tires, what you probably felt was the...
Just the nature of the beast. Something that weighs 5200lbs is going to not be very efficient when regularly coming to a stop. It is common for roads around here to be posted at 45mph but have stoplights every mile or so. It takes considerable energy to get a vehicle up to 45mph just to waste...
My personal experience with M+S rated all terrains was what drove me to getting actual winter tires for my 4Runner. I have the Nitto Terra Grappler on my 4Runner Pro (M+S rated). They are pretty terrible when it comes to wet and cold traction. The Michelin X-ice that I run during the winter...
It is kinda wild how comfortable modern cars can be at 100mph. I think back to my first car (early 90s Subaru) and that thing felt like it was going to come apart at 80mph.
1) My point is if you trust Toyota enough to buy a new, unproven model, you should trust them to spec the OCIs.
2) 10k OCIs for non-severe, 5k OCIs for severe. Each owner should consider their driving cycle regarding what the manufacturer calls out for non-severe and severe. If someone just...
I wouldn’t call it cutting corners. It costs a shitload more to spec a completely redundant set of flares than to just put the same flares on all. My guess is that it helps fuel economy just like the 245 section tires on the 1958. If those things are worth 1 mpg on the official testing, they can...
I was looking at two of them side by side at the dealership today. I find the 1958 charming, but I've noticed quite a lot of differences that would maybe push me to a non premium LC Grade.
I think we all know about the interior differences, but the exterior differences are bigger than I first...
Because he's a YouTube influencer that is more concerned about getting clicks than being factual. It's boring to say "hey, this panel on the edge of the cargo area has a warning sticker for weight". It's exciting and scary if he can proclaim that the whole cargo area only holds 60kg.
As others have said, they are temporary paint marks to verify that the bolts were checked and double checked. It will wear off over time. My 4runner Pro had them all over when I took delivery and not a single one is still there.
Being someone that is willing to spend $50-100 extra per year on oil changes all in the name of long term durability, why do you choose an unknown quantity over a mature model that is well known -- with data -- to be very reliable?
The Land Cruiser has a new engine, a new platform, a new...
Y'all are getting way too far into the weeds with this. There really isn't much conditioning to do to modern engines and super frequent oil changes are largely placebo.
If you would build a fault tree for why a vehicle is taken off the road, NG break-in procedure and NG manufacturer spec for...
There have been 4Runners with engine failures. Statistically, it isn't very common, but they do happen. We don't know yet if the Land Cruiser will be equally as reliable long term, but I wouldn't let 1 engine failure drive your decision. $h!t happens with a new model occasionally.
Oh boy, that fitment is fantastic on the BBS. Have you considered the heritage style center caps? I think they come in bronze and some other color that I cannot recall at the moment.
I wouldn't say orchestrated. If market research numbers came back saying that Toyota could move 30k First Editions for $76k or whatever they cost, they'd have built 30k. That would be a ton more profit for them rather than building 25k LC and 1958 grades. 5000 was basically the demand they...
The hybrid battery only has 2 ways to get charged. Either the engine does it or the vehicle's momentum does it. The engine charging the hybrid battery isn't particularly efficient. So, you want to maximize the battery charging via coasting / light braking.
If you are the type that is in...
