I think the most notable difference will be in duty cycles. While the parking lot performance may be similar, there are many reports of overheating the latest unibody all-wheel drive systems.
It’s great to see Toyota trying to better understand their customers, and the videos speak to me. However, I never endanger my life or the lives of others with reckless behaviors.
The vehicle width is a critical requirement for me due to garage constraints and narrow forest roads. My current width estimate for the LC 250, not including mirrors, is a maximum body width of 78 inches at the wheel wells and not more than 75 inches between the doors. This would leave around...
I’m hesitant to generate speculation; there are limited credible sources of information available. This is all best effort on my part.
The GX 550 turbo location may be a compromise for the global architecture volumetric integration; I’m not sure about access on the GX 550.
The AC compressor is...
Toyota almost certainly uses a numerical event tree analysis to calculate expected and actual vehicle level reliability. I’m making a list of powertrain components that the GX 550 has but the LC 250 does not and vice-versa. Removing the component from your vehicle also removes the failure...
Can anyone confirm the width of these two vehicles are the same? My initial impression was the GX 550 is wider. It appears the body width is around 78 inches.
I passed a full size truck hauling a camper on an older steel bridge in western Washington last week, and I never (ever) remember...
Totally agree, there seems to be a revival in our market segment. Coming from a Wrangler, I was looking at the 2024/2025 Honda Passport based on the new Pilot; the LC 250 satisfies many more requirements for me. The RAV4 is not really a comparison but is the best value; I can’t buy a RAV4...
Very good to hear. Hopefully this means the Toyota website will soon publish more data on the model year 2024 vehicles.
This is my first time shopping for a new Toyota, and I’m learning a lot about the Toyota relationship with dealers. I’m very fortunate to have so many Toyota dealers near my...
Thanks. I thought I heard on youtube the two-tone colors were reserved for the first edition. I have a 23 year old wrangler in solar yellow that has aged well. My preference is Ice Cap, however Trail Dust looks like a timeless color. I'm also eager to see the color options for model year 2025.
Totally agree. This thread is probably a better fit in the off-topic section of the Forum. I expect this vehicle will be more than "one tier" below the LC 250. The Rav4 segment of the market is very crowded and cost sensitive.
That volume knob is almost a distraction it was intended to mitigate. The volume knob location likely came from ergonomics engineering to mitigate driver distractions. Somebody apparently has some data showing we are more distractible than the rest of the global Land Cruiser market.
The new Tundra hybrid system is similar to the LC 250. I expect they may even share some component part numbers. AMD from “The Car Care Nut” channel is biased, but have no trouble watching his videos anyway. This explanation of the Tundra’s hybrid system helped me decide on the LC 250.
David from “AutomotivePress” reports speculative details on a potentially new mini Land Cruiser variant. I was expecting a north American market unibody EV Cruiser following the Bronco Sport, but apparently the mini Land Cruiser could be a body-on-frame vehicle.
I expect oil changes will be similar to other Toyota vehicles. I'm planning to perform all the maintenance myself.
This will be my first vehicle with a forced induction engine, and I have not yet decided on the oil type or oil change frequency. I was planning to use Mobil 1 Extended...
I'm not looking closely at the GX 550 since I don't need the towing capability. The GX 550 powertrain will incorporate the latest improvements from the Tundra in-service experience, however I would expect the engines to otherwise be identical.
Great point. My understanding is the Tundra has an electronic waste gate controller whereas the Tacoma has a conventional vacuum operated waste gate.
I’m hopeful lessons learned on the Tundra will be incorporated in the LC 250. There will be issues after production begins, and I expect Toyota...
Toyota shares our concerns about the reliability of turbocharged engines. The Chief Engineer of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, Sheldon Brown, talks about the design and testing of the 2.4L engine.
Great discussion and good points by all on a variety of topics. Based on my current observations, I think the new LC 250 replaces the current 4Runner market share.
The LC 250 powertrain technology appears to be an acceptable trade-off to meet EPA emissions/efficiency requirements. NiMH and...
I expect there will be enough of room to sleep in the back. The flat section over the battery is around 40 inches long which should be enough for the average human torso on a high-density foam cushion to level the floor over the rear seat back. I have not seen the total length with the rear...
Nice! Toyota will lose some points for making the rear cargo compartment floor leveling storage box an option. I can humbly offer Toyota a new design requirement: "The rear cargo floor shall be flat".
Thanks. I like the volume knob location on the Prado, but I don't think the HDMI port will see much use. I'm happy to trade the third row for batteries and more torque, but I would be interested in the diesel if I was not in the USA. I can't find any flaws with the dimensions of the LC 250, and...
My first modification could be replacing the 12v battery with a deep cycle AGM battery. AGM batteries are less likely to off-gas and and can tolerate discharging when the hybrid system is off. Flooded lead acid batteries are the gold standard for reliability and I expect the LC 250 will come...
Hi icavedin. I'm near Toyota of Seattle. I was there a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have any LC info yet from Toyota. My understanding is there are no custom orders, so I don’t have a plan yet on how I’m going to get the exact trim/color/options.
