Just arrived 😍 The new 2023 Toyota Land Cruiser “ 70 series “ long wheelbase - with price

I like the 70 series Land Cruiser. We could see a new FJ from Toyota. Capability, reliability, and durability seem to be having a resurgence at Toyota. My only complaint with the 70 series is the suspension; they would need to replace the leaf springs with coils springs to penetrate the US market.

Will the Land Cruiser be made in San Antonio?

Manufacturing complex machines is extraordinarily challenging and they make it look easy.

Missing KDSS does it make a big difference

The GX550 will be a fine vehicle; my preference would be the Overtrail trim. The LC 250 meets my requirements at a much better life cycle value compared to the GX550; everything will be more expensive with the GX550.

Missing KDSS does it make a big difference

I’ve never owned a vehicle with active suspension, and maybe I’m trying to talk myself out of a GX550; I just can’t picture Toyota when I think of manufacturers with excellent chassis / suspension integration. This seems to be the ethos of German manufacturers like BMW and Porsche, with the...

The Japan Mobility Show will begin on 28-Oct-2023

Toyota appears to be shaking up the industry; Jeep’s CEO will be replaced on 01-Nov-2023 due to declining sales. Jeep is probably aware of what will be announced at the Japan Mobility Show this month; will we see another body-on-frame cruiser variant announcement? The Japan Mobility Show will...

Missing KDSS does it make a big difference

My Jeep Wrangler TJ has exemplary articulation, however I rarely use the limits even though it’s only a $14,000 USD vehicle in 2000 dollars. My sense is extreme articulation will rarely be used on a $80k USD vehicle.

    color options

That is what I heard from the SLC reveal last month; two-tone colors are reserved for the First Edition during model year 2024. I like Trail Dust, and I’m hopeful it will be available for other trims in model year 2025.

Land Cruiser Renders - Custom Builds

Goose Gear has some slick looking lightweight rear seat delete kits for the 4Runner. I expect the rear seats will unbolt easily, but I would love a factory cargo version of the LC 250 (this will never happen however).

What tire size will the new Land Cruiser have?

I have 13,000 miles so far without any noticeable wear. I have the spare in the rotation program which I plan to replicate on the LC 250. I tend to replace tires well before the warranty wear levels; a mid-level tire with lots of tread is better than an expensive/heavy worn out tire. The General...

What tire size will the new Land Cruiser have?

Toyota is good at selecting tires for optimal value and fuel efficiency. I’m not interested in the stock 20 inch option, and both 18 inch options are on the lighter end of the spectrum. I’m also searching for tires that are not the heaviest or lightest available. I have General Grabber A/Ts on...

Is the 2024 Land Cruiser drive train proven?

YouTuber Scotty Kilmer reported a software fix for the Tundra wastegate issue, however this may have been a mitigation instead of a complete solution; the solution sounds like a complete replacement of the entire turbocharger assembly which includes the wastage controller. My guess would be the...

Is the 2024 Land Cruiser drive train proven?

My understanding from watching vlogger videos is the 2.4L engine turbo is on the right side of the engine compartment and hopefully easier to access on the LC 250. The turbo is mounted at the rear of the 2.4L engine on transverse configurations like the Crown and Grand Highlander. Also, the LC...

Is the 2024 Land Cruiser drive train proven?

My preference is also for a Tahara built LC 250. I was hoping the all LC 250s would come from Tahara and maybe Hino would build the LC 70 series. The Tundra wastegate controller issue seems to be a case of the supplier not meeting design requirements instead of a fundamental flaw in the design...

Is the 2024 Land Cruiser drive train proven?

The answer is yes for Toyota’s vehicle testing team. The answer is unequivocally no for Toyota’s customers. A deeper question is how far did they push the limits of proven technology and who was on the design team. The starter motor generator is commodity technology and should be okay as long...

    Manual transmission?

The LC 250 would be my first vehicle with an automatic transmission. I have not heard of a manual option on the Tacoma in hybrid configuration. A weight comparison between the heaviest Tacoma with a manual compared to the LC 250 minus hybrid components may offer insight on Toyota possibly...

Land Cruiser vs Highlander Hybrid AWD on ice

I don’t have any experience with unibody all-wheel drive systems, so my observations are based on anecdotal reporting. Deductively comparing body-on-frame with unibody all-wheel drive systems, it seems reasonable heat will build up faster over time in unibodies. Thermal stress may be...

Expected reliability of LC 250 compared to the GX 550

Expected reliability of LC 250 compared to the GX 550

Battery pack replacement will be required once in the life of the vehicle for most owners, or about every ten years. Ambient thermal exposure is a big driver, so Seattle and Phoenix could see variances of several years. I’m planning replace the cells (40ea) with new cells before capacity...

Expected reliability of LC 250 compared to the GX 550

AMD from “The Car Care Nut” Youtube channel reviewed the Crown in hybrid max configuration yesterday, and there is a serpentine belt to drive the water pump. This was apparently done for cost control to reduce engine configurations across models. I suppose the serpentine belt only has to last as...

Expected reliability of LC 250 compared to the GX 550

I’m still trying to confirm the fully electric driven engine cooling system on the LC 250. It appears Toyota may have used some type of mechanical engine cooling fan with an electric clutch on the Sequoia; I’m hoping this configuration does not exist on the LC 250. It appears the engine cooling...

How are speedometers calibrated? With the vehicle GPS?

Very cool, we have similar backgrounds. The most modern commercial transport aircraft use ground based augmentation systems for GPS position error. GPS speed is only used in conjunction with high integrity inertial navigation systems for back-up airspeed in an emergency.

Land Cruiser vs Highlander Hybrid AWD on ice

Affirmative, including the latest torque-vectoring systems from Toyota, Honda, and Ford. Unibody torque-vectoring all-wheel drive systems offer better performance over short durations compared to brake-vectoring systems but are not suitable for extended use because of the heat generated.

How are speedometers calibrated? With the vehicle GPS?

My appologies Nuke. GPS can not measure altitude with an accuracy required to compensate for vehicle elevation changes over time because GPS altitude is referenced against a geomentric model of the earth (the ellipsoid) instead of actual height above sea level.

    color options

I have observed the same for the Trail Dust color. Hopefully Heritage Blue and Trail Dust will be available on Land Cruiser trims here in the USA for model year 2024. Toyota needs early buyers to queue up, so I would not be surprised if the First Edition trim came in exclusive colors.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2.8-litre Turbo Diesel | Walkaround

Unfortunately, our regulatory authorities make it impractical to certify diesel engines in the United States, so the missing diesel option here in America is not entirely due to customer demand. I thought I heard the hybrid components are only 2x the weight of diesel emissions cleaning systems...
