I use Mobil 1 filters currently. I had a new Fram with the filter element loose in the housing; that was the last Fram filter I purchased. Typical automotive oil filters don’t provide any indication when they go into bypass mode, and that could be justification for replacing the oil filter every...
Thanks for the report. Jeep was missing from the Seattle show as well; Mazda and Mercedes were also missing. I remember going to the Seattle show in the old Kingdome 20 years ago and seeing new product from every car manufacturer, however the latest Seattle show was small by comparison. There...
I've decided on Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20 every six months. I drive 4-6K miles per year. David from Automotive Press had a Nissan factory engine builder advocating for replacing the filter every other oil change when adopting frequent oil changes, and I may adopt that practice after...
There are no Land Cruisers at the Seattle International Auto Show. I understand the Los Angels Auto Show has an LC250 on display but the Toyota rep speculated it was locked similar to the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro on display in Seattle. Maybe someone who attends the LA show can provide a report?
I...
Sheldon Brown surprised me with some unconventional aluminum parts on the new Tacoma as reported in a Youtube interview, and I'm hopeful we'll see the same on the LC.
I'll consider Corrosion Free Rust Cure Formula 3000, thanks. I forgot to mention Dinitrol AV30 is highly toxic, so careful adherence to the MSDS would be appropriate.
This is a good source for general corrosion control. This is an aviation standard but is also suitable for cars/trucks.

I alway try and prevent or slow corrosion; removing corrosion has many considerations. I've used this on the bed of my Toyota truck and I'm considering treatments for the LC250.

Good point. We have a notorious road nearby in the Cascades that took the life of a guy last year in a full size truck trying to navigate the switchbacks. His rig had to be extracted by helicopter.
I’ll be going to the Seattle auto show on Friday. I’m not sure I’ll see a Land Cruiser, but I’m planning to take my tape measure and camera to collect some data for my build.
Has anyone seen the Land Cruiser at a recent auto show? I’m planning to get some pics of the engine compartment and...
Discussion on the Tacoma forums suggest we'll see a raft of Youtube reviews on 28-Nov-2023 with the online configurator going live shortly thereafter. However, it appears the hybrid trims may not be ready yet. My current expectations for the first hybrid delivery is around the April 2024...
It’s interesting the Lexus team in the videos didn’t mention collaboration with the Calty Design office. The GX550 shares the engine with the Tundra on the TNGA-F platform. Since the GX550 Overtrail trim is the most off-road focused Lexus ever, it seems prudent to highlight their collaboration...
The central Seattle Toyota dealer closest to me will not take deposits on any LC trim until there is a VIN. I'm starting to make contingency plans if there is a production delay or if customer demand prevents me from purchasing at MSRP. Toyota knows our expectations are high for the J250 Land...
An onboard compass display is a good idea. My primary sense of navigation is through a mental compass azimuth orientation. A full display of the azimuth would be preferred, however a simple cardinal heading display would be great. I expect the hardware required is already onboard for this...
It's great to hear from Moritsu-san. Mike Sweers from Toyota has estimated the development cost for a new model at several billion USD, and I'm excited to learn more about the design team. On the topic of market position for the new LC250, the 4Runner is noticeably missing from conversations on...
We've been discussing color in multiple threads. I've seen enough videos and photos of the Land Cruiser trim in Heritage Blue to anticipate this color on multiple trims. Everybody is waiting patiently for more information, and I think it’s time for Toyota to allow us to configure our 2024 Land...
The rectangular lights appear to have more elements and I expect would be easier to source replacements. I think both look great. My first impression was the circular lights look great, but I suspect the rectangular lights will perform better. This is my first time having to evaluate headlight...
I checked the Toyota Canada website a couple weeks ago and I thought the MPG numbers were deleted similar to the USA website. I heard Mike Sweers from Toyota say they do not release the numbers publicly until those numbers are submitted to the certification authorities. Waiting to release the...
The 2.4L Grand Highlander Hybrid Max is certified at 26/27/27 MPG. The LC 250 is less aerodynamic and has a different rear drive system, so the LC 250 may come in just under these numbers. I expect most of the work has been done on the LC 250 and now it's down to documentation and regulatory...
Toyota consistently uses the lightest weight tires to certify the best fuel consumption ratings. Many millions are spent on fuel efficiency optimization during the design, so light tires preserve that investment. The suspension will meet Land Cruiser standards which I understand is the highest...
The LC 250 will have twin tube shocks up front, but I would not expect external reservoir shocks on any trim. Toyota has experience with full floating axels on motorhomes and large trucks, but I would be surprised to see a full-floater on the LC 250. Jeep Wranglers typically have modified axels...
I always like hearing from David.
I think the LC 250 is a much better value than the LC 300. The functionality and performance may be similar, but the value is a paradigm shift improvement on the LC 250. The investment in value engineering on the TNGA-F platform is the reason why I’m so...
Okay, Toyota has earned our attention on that concept vehicle! I can’t shake the image of that motor singing at 9,000rpm while ripping though a muddy test track at 25mph across the ground.
Good question.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (MMWA) applies here in the USA; passed by Congress in 1975 - Section 102(c), 15 U.S.C. 2302(c).
“The MMWA prohibits tying arrangements that condition coverage under a written warranty on the consumer's use of an article or service identified by...
I don't recall seeing running boards on the 1958 trim, but I expect there will be several suppliers to choose from. Profit margins are high for dealer installed equipment, so there will be options available from Toyota.
Does anybody here use The Toyota Technical Information System (TIS)? It looks like I would have to pay $25 for limited access inside to look for any LC 250 information. I'm wondering how long it takes Toyota to release repair manuals for a new model?
