Air Compressors - Best type to keep in LC?

There are surface mount 12v outlets, I got one at a local auto parts store and installed it in the drivers side glove box of my 2008 FJ to provide a plugin for my GPS. All you need to do is decide where to put the hole (and make sure you have access to the back of the hole). I had a more...

Tire (and a few wheel) options spreadsheet

Added these (from the Tire Upgrade thread) to the table -- a rare 275/70R18 standard load option. Most sizes will be available October & November.

    Tire Upgrade ?

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll add that to my table. I’m hoping we’ll soon have more standard load and/or C load options on that size!

    Dealer Negotiations

With the 20" wheels it seems to be a Toyota regional thing that the dealers can't control. Out here in California nearly all the Land Cruiser trim w/premium package come with 20" wheels from the factory. Go a state or two over to Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and they have 18" wheels. My...

Probably a dumb question... do you swap out the spare too?

With my FJ's I always specifically ask and print out the rotation pattern. With the land cruiser, putting the spare in the trunk might be a good addition.

Tire (and a few wheel) options spreadsheet

What offset on the Method wheels? Icon did a video suggesting a 40 offset will fit 285's better than the stock offset. But that 25 or less risks running into the fender under flex.

    What’s your name mean?

Markarian 421 is a galaxy (#421 in Benjamin Markarian’s list of UV bright galaxies) that emits a lot of gamma rays, and something I studied briefly in grad school. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markarian_421

    Tire Upgrade ?

Also that at around 20mm you're in danger of a larger tire hitting the fender, in addition to spraying gravel down the side.

    Light bar

I saw one behind the grill install. And a few winch bumper inserts with a space for light bars. DV8 is working on one, search here and you’ll find pictures of their prototype.

Stock Wheels - offset and bolt pattern?

That’s really helpful. If you go to a 40mm offset wheel a 285/70R18 fits fine (except for in the spare location). If you push to 25mm offset, you’ll have problems.

Does anyone actually get the posted 22/24 mpg?

Just checked for MPGs from people who specifically aid they were running E load tires: 17, 17, 18.5, 20, 20.5, 20.7, 22

    WTF The Dashcam

On Toyota's Land Cruiser build page, the picture for the dash cam shows what kind of windshield it was designed for: much closer to horizontal than the Land Cruiser's nearly vertical windshield! vs. reality: (Photo from LandCruiserSteve in the other thread)

Does anyone actually get the posted 22/24 mpg?

In the other thread I posted about collecting all reported mpgs there and in the smaller IH8MUD thread on the same topic. I’ve continued to update that from these threads and a few other sources. 21 mpg is still the most common answer, and is also the mean and median. There is a bump around...

    Tire Upgrade ?

Now you just need to convince someone to make some skinny options for an 18” wheel. The stock size is about the most skinny tire you can get without going to a smaller diameter tire.

How much poke & weight is too much and other suspension wear worries

Just went back and looked at the table and yeah I was really conservative/cautious in what I put in the table initially before people had Land Cruisers to start trying tires on. I just updated it since I've now seen many reports that 275/70R18's fit and don't rub and no reports of problems.

    Tires for 17"

Someone just posted photos of 18" Methods with 18mm offset. It was less poke than I expected but still it was out past the mud flaps. I'm really hoping if enough people ask, Method will make some 18" bead grips with more LC appropriate offsets like they have in the 17" wheels. The 17" wheels...

How much poke & weight is too much and other suspension wear worries

No, but there are almost no 33” tires that aren’t E load.

How much poke & weight is too much and other suspension wear worries

I should add: at the SEMA event for vendors to measure the LC and GX, a Toyota/Lexus person said these are designed for 33” (slightly larger than stock) and larger tires with no or minimal modifications. I don’t think slightly upsized tires will be an issue.

How much poke & weight is too much and other suspension wear worries

I guess I’m assuming Toyota wouldn’t make wheels that would cause problems for their vehicles — those or anything with similar offsets shouldn’t be a problem. Zero offset might not be great, and spacers so the tires poke way way out nearly guarantee problems. I’ll have to check the table, as...

How much poke & weight is too much and other suspension wear worries

I'm no expert but you can check the spreadsheet linked in my signature for a few options. The GX has a 50mm offset and Toyota has a few options for the Tacoma and Sequoia with wider wheels and slightly smaller offsets to compensate, several folks have been getting those. The Tacoma wheels...
