Seriously looking at the Summit from mission overland, but I have never seen one in person or talked with anyone who has used one. We get off grid frequently and it looks like it will handle nearly any trail. Curious how the LC tows on rough hilly terrain. It seems really light, comparatively...
It can’t be that far off. Look at the last 4. All are quite well known to have significant reliability issues. It doesn’t keep them from selling lot of cars. Jeeps dominate the hardcore rock crawling crowd, not because they are reliable, but because they are relatively easy to fix and parts are...
It isn't on all vehicles. It isn't even on all LC's, Mine being a prime example. Pretty ubiquitous among dealers as an upcharge you think is part of the optional equipment from the factory.... but it isnt. Most wont negotiate away these dealer add-ons for the $400 "desert package" or "winter...
May be a dealer add on. PPF like this comes in many offerings. Typically part of a dealer "protection and convenience package" Usually does not come like this from Toyota. If you look at your purchase documents there may be a line item in there detailing what they put on, since this is...
I appreciate that they didn't do a media day video. Those are very unhelpful for real world application, and you get 30 exactly similar reviews trying to make it look like they did some real journalism.
I don’t think the upgraded skid plate would have prevented your damage. Looking at the radiator placement this rig will need a custom radiator plate that is somehow tied into the frame (possibly at the tow hooks). The accountants definitely won the debate with the engineers on the radiator...
Apologize if f this has been answered, I have looked through most of these threads. Is there anyone reporting real world experience with these skid plates functioning with some pretty good hits? Obviously nothing is going to defend against stupidity, but any real world reports of it...
Selling wheels and tires:
Wheels: stock 18’ LC trim wheels will come with original emblem center caps and TPMS included.
Tires: Toyo Open Country AT3. Stock size (265/70/R18) SL. Super quiet, like stock smooth ride and handling, no noticeable MPG difference.
Toyos are about $1300 OTD mounted...
Every dealer handles this a bit differently, that is why it will require extensive phone calls over time. All three toyota dealers within 20 miles of my house have completely different protocols for how they handle this, but you are correct. I have never seen a sale pending on the website, but...
This is 100% how to do it. My experience buying a new release vehicle has been easy, as I have used the above method for all purchases (including multiple impossible to find at the time Raptors). Dealers know they have a person on the hook whenever they want with a name and a deposit. You...
if anybody has the rectangle take-offs they want to sell I will gladly take them off your hands. Im in the grateful minority that likes the rectangle far better. Something about the front proportions that is off with the round to my eye. Ill save the takeoffs for down the road when I need a...
Stock, mine turns off when I turn the engine off. I havent looked for an answer. I wonder if it is a trim thing. I have LC non premium. Need to go through the settings.
Love the added sidewall, but the extra width is a concern. Have to balance the pros and cons. Wider tires have less contact patch offroading at lower psi which I do a lot. If I could find the increased sidewall in the 10.5 width range it would be a winner.
Yeah Im used to the slight road noise with AT tires. Currently running stock size (265 70 18) Toyo At3 in a 4 ply, 10 years of K02 before that. So if you were on stock 18 inch rims and Toyo AT3 you wouldnt swap them out? Im looking for a bit taller tire for offroad clearance.
**Edit. I just...
80 mph very smooth no vibrations for me. Just over 1k miles. I took off the roof rack crossbars day of delivery. It isn’t the smoothest car out there (it’s not intended to be). But mine drives very well for an offroad box.
Just adding info to the fuel conversation. At about 7 minutes in, this engineer talks about how Toyota aims to maintain reliability with smaller displacement engines (hint: combustion efficiency in decreasing heat is a part). Really interesting interview with lead engineer on the GX engine. My...
OEM take offs from a LC LC (not Premium) 4 tires. 2k miles on them.
For pickup only in AZ. Id consider shipping but probably more than the cost of the tires.
Im always thankful for genuine sharing online of ones personal reasons for choosing whatever they like. I have learned so much from reading thoughtful responses. Its pretty easy to spot the ones who only care if they are right vs those who want to help share what may be a helpful perspective...
In much of the country sidewall may not be a big issue as it is mostly mud and dirt (many trails east of...say..colorado). Even weekend warriors in the west need as much sidewall protection and rim protection as possible (your rim is 1 inch closer to the pointy rocks below and on the side)...
I use the swirls as a break in period for my soon to be "Arizona pinstriping". I used to be so focused on the paint, only to have it basically clear coat scratched along both sides within a year with all my past rigs.
