I have the non-premium LC Trim, which I picked over the 1958 edition because of:
1. Color options (two-tone Blue or Yellow was critical for me!)
2. Sway-bar disconnect
3. Multi-terrain monitor
4. Roof rails + Crossbar
5. Ventilated seats + softex
6. Bigger screens, better audio, gadgetry, etc...
So far, based on poll respondents, over 90% of folks here have received their cruiser. That's great to see!
Sadly, nobody is here just for the fun of it. 🙃
The "Premium package" doesn't give you any of those upgrades aside from leather, when compared to the LC trim without the premium package.. This would be more appropriate when comparing the 1958 Edition to the First Edition, but that's a whole lot more than $4000.
Premium Package $4600...
I think that’s pretty subjective. The biggest thing is leather, which I know for many folks, provides considerable value. If you don’t want leather on the other hand, the premium package becomes much harder to justify if you break down the features one by one.
But I’m just frugal as well. I see...
The center display "Update" button will reset your "Total Average" fuel economy, not the trip odometer. I have been hitting that update button on gas refills to simulate "tank average" MPG. I wish it included the distance as well though in the history.
The areas that I struggle with:
* 5-10 minute drives within city (stop signs, lights, 15-25mph speeds). If i hypermile and basically coast the whole time, I'm lucky to break 15mpg total over the short trip. I imagine the engine needs some time to "warm up", which is unfortunate when my drive...
Wireless carplay can be finicky at times. Wired is a lot more reliable, so it is worth keeping a short USB-C cable handy. I find that when wireless is not working, it sorts it self out after I plug in for a drive and then the next time I get in, wireless seems to Just Work™️ again.
I don't plan to renew the Toyota subscriptions after the trial expires. I do not see the value in it for my own uses. I have never felt like I'm missing out on anything worthwhile with my other Toyotas either.
I use carplay exclusively for everything - music, podcasts, google maps, & gaia...
Me: Noooo! you can't draw in the dirt, that will scratch it!
My five year old kid: Dad, it's a Land Cruiser. It's supposed to get scratched!
Such wisdom!
Anyway, I have so many sunscreen stains all over the softex now. Some of them are tiny little hand prints which are actually kinda cute...
I'm a simple man, and the $5 early bird special at the local car wash is good enough for me. Bonus points for the free vacuums + unlimited slightly damp cloths which all the carwashes around here seem to have these days.
I ordered from a place called Grieco Toyota in Rhode Island. They arbitrarily had the lowest combined parts + shipping price to me in Idaho. But the skids were available at most places when i searched online for the part number. I put together carts and estimated shipping on about the first 5...
I followed the directions provided and got it to work right away. Which was a pleasant surprise, since I could never get it to work with the homelink in my previous Subaru.
The 1958 trim does not come with running boards, so it should be pretty easy to find pictures without them.
Removal is just a few bolts from what I understand.
I averaged 20.5mpg over 620 miles of mountain driving over the last couple days. 3000-8000ft elevation lots of ups and downs. Some interstate, lots of 2-lane highways, a couple long sections of forest roads over mountain passes, and even a little bit of “off roading” (ie when the forest roads...
I noticed the hump early on, but less so much recently. Not sure if it got better or if i just changed the way I'm driving. It would occasionally happen to be when slowing down to a stop at an intersection.
I'm trying to collect a list of all the options we have for roof racks, and maybe make a table for reference. But, alas, I need some help filling it out! Let me know what else i can add, and if you know missing info, or would like to see more columns/details added.
