I have that coasting to lower speeds down pretty well. My trusty 2007 Tundra has 158,000 miles on the original brake pads. They’re just now coming down to the end of useful life. Probably treat the old girl to new rotors too.
I am personally not overly concerned with stop and go driving efficiency. Almost all of my miles are put on driving rural two lane highways. I just accept bad fuel efficiency in town. It’s a very small town we have one traffic light. My commute is 24 miles one way on a two lane highway.
No.
At the moment your observed mileage is outside the norm of most others reporting here.
What trim and tires are you driving?
Genuinely curious, the LC would be way more convenient to get service locally for me. However it seems to be missing a ton of power that Toyota claims but it’s not...
If that were accurate then why are LC owners and GX550 owners reporting more or less the same highway fuel economy?
Toyota clearly seems to have calibrated the engine in the LC to produce good numbers only in EPA testing. That’s all they care about, end user results so far show that the...
Plenty of real world testing in other large heavy vehicles shows that smaller displacement often does not equal significantly improved fuel efficiency.
Deviate from the ridiculously unrealistic EPA fuel economy testing and drive real highway speeds and larger displacement engines often still...
A Quick look on the GX550 forum shows a lot of those folks getting about 17–18 MPG on the highway going 75-80. Pretty similar mileage to the LC but with a larger fuel tank and more power/towing ability.
Yesterday I saw a sweet Crown Victoria in Bennet, NE they had a lift kit and all terrains on it.
Tons of trunk space, big gas tank, more ground clearance than a Land Cruiser too.
Plus old Crown Vic’s are damn near indestructible.
Agreed. My mom has softtex in her Lexus RX350 I like it a lot more than leather, it doesn’t seem to get hot in the summer and it’s held up well for her so far.
Toyota’s packaging of the Land Cruiser (and most of their other products) is frustrating. The only options I would want on the LC trim...
How many holstered pistols and pistol magazines does it hold?
Center consoles are for blaster storage on long highway slogs when you don’t want your EDC digging in to you or the seats or (more often than not) both.
The problem with keeping the LC exclusivity simple and only allowing more options on the GX is that Lexus dealers have a very limited network in many parts of the country. Furthermore Lexus customer service if you live far away from a dealership sucks a giant bag of dicks, as my mother is...
Agreed it’s an off-road vehicle the wave to open sensor is going to get fooled or fouled in off-road use.
Assuming it works right at all. Motion sensing faucets turn us all into shitty magicians trying to abra-cadabra water out of gas station bathroom faucets. Do you really want the same...
Thanks for the report.
I’m hopeful that the aftermarket addresses the fuel tank, or there’s an easy way to at least stick a GX550 fuel tank in place of the 17.9 gallon stock unit.
Exactly right.
Back about 18 years ago I worked for a BMW dealer and the M cars all had restricted RPM until the first 1000 or 1200 miles. The old E39 M5 even had an RPM limiter based on oil temperature, no spinning it all the way up till it was warmed up.
I have this exact kit installed on my 2007 Tundra I should have done it 10 years ago. Been using it for the last two years.
No issues, makes oil changes drastically cleaner and more convenient.
I installed one on my mom’s 2021 Lexus RX350 as well since I am now maintaining that too.
Once I...
I got this years ago from the local Toyota dealership. It’s what their techs use on oil filters. Works on canister and cartridge style filter housing Toyota oil filters.
To black it out you will need to remove it.
Get yourself some waxed dental floss, and carefully remove the badge with the dental floss.
Then clean the paint with an adhesive remover like Goof-Off.
Next take your iForceMax badge and chuck it in the trash because it’s an abomination. Or put it...
You’re probably right. I could have maybe accepted the downgrade in highway passing power from my current 1/2 ton pickup if the LC actually achieved 25 MPG in the highway but no one seems to get close that. So hard pass from me unless Toyota gives it a real engine. If fuel economy is going to...
Yeah passing people on two lane highways with 65 or 70 mph speed limits means I am commonly seeing 85-90 mph. Sometimes I have to pass 2-3 dawdling tourists at a time. Acceleration performance is important, and the LC by the numbers is a slug up there.
30-50 acceleration is pointless to be realistic, no one is passing on a two lane highway in that speed range. The GX550 massacres the LC in highway passing ability and acceleration. Look at the 1/4 mile times and trap speeds plus the 0-100 acceleration.
The hybrid system is clearly programmed...
This thread tells me all I need to know about the hybrid system. It’s a power adder and not a fuel economy enhancement.
As a power adder it seems to be lackluster based on acceleration numbers.
Between the poor acceleration compared to the LC’s stablemate the GX550, and the mediocre fuel...
I have lots of wrench experience.
I’m highly skilled at throwing wrenches while swearing, flaying my knuckles and fingers open on sharp metal, and of course losing any 10mm socket within a 1/2 mile radius of anything I work on ever.
Mostly I just decide to fix something myself because I’m a...
Not a Toyota fan boy here. Just explaining to another member the types and locations of bearing on a rotating assembly.
Sorry your new truck is making strange noises.
Toyota’s recent history with engine issues is getting more and more well known.
You’re probably in for a shitty time to be...
The cylinder block will contain several types of bearings, namely main cap bearings, and connecting rod bearings.
An inline 4 cylinder will have 5 main journals on the crankshaft, and 4 rod journals. The main journals are held in place by either main bearing caps or in this instance a main...
A dealer can always discount, doesn’t mean they’re willing to though.
If you have to have the shiny new toy while it’s still a hot commodity you probably don’t get a discount. Either wait a year or two, or pay to play.
