For the record: Not arguing with you, just sharing more background about how I've arrived at some of my own opinions.
I agree, the 1E is a better direct comparison to the TRD PRO 4Runner. But still, looking at the same 10 year ownership and fuel prices, overall cost is likely going to be...
The only options so far that have me not 100% sold on just buying the 1958 and modifying it to my own tastes, is the electronic sway bar disconnect and the camera system.
I think the cloth seats are more durable and comfortable (not as sweaty), I like the round headlights. I'm going to add my...
Awesome. I've never had a vehicle with a HUD or even a back-up camera.
Yes, First edition is only the first 5000. Later, I expect Toyota will have a higher limited edition trims, but call it something like TRD PRO or the Trail Hunter edition or similar.
I'm not sure about your question on the...
I haven't driven (or even been inside) a late gen 4Runner, so I don't have a real solid opinion.
Just to add to the conversation: compare 270hp (4Runner) vs 326hp (Land Cruiser) and 278 ftlbs torque vs 456 ftlbs in the new LC.
β’
Then look at the MPG. 4Runner: 17 mpg combined. Land Cruiser...
I will also add my opinion that the dealers have NO idea what their allocation numbers will be yet. The ones that acted like they already know that the LC will be hard to get, also happen to be the ones that are adding a bunch of markup. They might come in low numbers, but they don't know yet...
Northern Utah market:
β’ Tony Divino (Riverdale, UT) they are estimating a $3k markup. No deposits taken to get on the list until the specs are released. Then $500 refundable.
β’ Bountiful Toyota (Bountiful, UT) estimated ~$3k markup. $500 refundable deposit, but you have to go in person to $...
Breaking down older Land Cruiser naming conventions (just for fun):
The first letter(s) designate the motor.
The J means "Heavy Duty" Land Cruiser (or originally "Jeep" if the legend holds true) FJ40, BJ40 (diesel), FJ45, FJ43, FJ60, HJ60(diesel), FJ62, FJ80, URJ200 to name a few. If you have...
By heads up display are you talking a display projected onto the windshield? If so, I have no idea if that will even be an option. Toyota's goal with this truck was to go back to utilitarian roots and bring the price point back down. A windshield HUD is kind of a fluffy option.
When they get even older, the Land Cruiser name alone seems to add more value. It seems you can pick up an LX450 cheaper than a similarly aged 80 series Land Cruiser.
If I were in the market, I'd buy the LX450 ALL DAY.
Ha! I didn't know this forum existed when you asked the question. I knew the answer at the time, but I couldn't talk about it either.
I like finding a group of people as excited as I am.
If you are not on a list already, it is unlikely you will score a 1st edition.
My order of preference.
1. First Edition. Although, I'm not sure I want to pay TRD Pro level mark-up (or more). I agree with @Nuke and the other comments. If the price is what I think it will be, you can get into an...
I've been thinking about going back to an All Terrain tread. I don't chase trails based on difficulty anymore. Even for those that like to get off-road, most of our driving (like 95%+) is still on-road. The M/Ts look cool, so they are the only choice when visiting the mall. But, all the malls...
This is the thinking. Anyone that cares what tires they run will likely have a strong opinion on what brand and size they want. Some people want the biggest/widest tires made under a 6" lift. Some want 35" pizza cutters on a 3" lift (me). Some people swear by BFG's, some people hate them (me...
I have run General M/Ts for the last 15 years. Red letters, now X3s.
I would love to see some light gray wheels (white letters out) on a two tone Land Cruiser.
I'm not against electric vehicles. I have no plans to ever buy a Tesla (unless I start hearing the quality is improving).
For my personal use (compared with a Land Cruiser), electric vehicles don't fit (yet). The charging network just isn't there. I like to drive too far off the main roads to be...
Welcome to the chat Freddy. You should introduce yourself here too: π Land Cruiser Introductions
You're in luck. I believe all the new LCs will come standard with backup cameras and heads up displays.
There was not much difference in the hard plastics between the 3 editions. At least none that I could tell. The biggest differences will be cloth seats and a slightly smaller Infotainment screen in the 1958 vs Softex seats in the 'Land Cruiser'.
1958 model also appears to ship with slightly...
Except for the blue, the color lineup is pretty neutral (bland?).
I will say the Trail Dust seems to photograph horribly. I loved it in person, but have not liked it in photos.
I like the Underground, but I think I want a little more color.
If I could have my 250 ANY color I wanted today, I'd...
