TRD JON Buys New 2024 Land Cruiser First Edition... Road Trip

Seeing the real world MPG after a few hundred miles is reassuring after hearing a few people say the "out of the box" fuel economy is below the EPA estimate.

I thought it was pretty wild the FE he bought was initially used as demo car then traded/bought by another dealer, very strange. He said he was ok with it having 500 miles on the odm, but man for 77k, I want that be no more than 25 miles max.

I bought my 2024 LC FE at the same delership about 2 weeks back. I can confirm that Danville Toyota is not in fact MSRP as stated in the video. At least not for a nobody like me :)

The MPG is interesting. I’m getting nowhere near that. In traffic it’s more like 16-17. I only have 275 miles on the car so I am hoping this will improve? It doesn’t really seem to be using the hybrid system much.

I have ~1,200 miles (first oil change done)... so far I'm seeing 20 MPG in town with ECO mode and being gentle on the throttle. I notice fairly minor battery assist as well. It was encouraging to see that the same vehicle with roof rack and rock rails/plates is getting good numbers. I wonder if it helped that overall, he was going "downhill" from VA/NC to FL.

If I were Jon I would use the GPS on my phone to assure accuracy of the Toyota odometer when calculating gas mileage. I had at least 4% on my 99 4Runner until I upped rims to 17" from 16". Then mileage was spot on. I think the barristers force the inherent error to avoid legal issues on speeding tickets.

I liked the video as he gave good trip info and comparison to his 4RUnner (with the roll down rear window). THanks for posting.

didn't realize the US models kept the console cooler box. i don't use the cooler box in my current LC anyway... this the Canadian toyota build sheet:

Speedometers regularly read low, but I'm not aware of odometers reading incorrectly. I would think that those would have to be pretty darn accurate from the factory (<1% deviation) due to the implications to warranties and the fact that odometer readings are strictly regulated.

Are you sure that there wasn't something out on your '99 instead? Previous owner put smaller tires on it or some non-OEM tires that don't measure exactly the same?

Nah, I am the original owner. No previous owner. I went from 265/70X16" to 265/70X17" with new alloy rims that were take offs from a newer SR5. The longer runout (circumference) adjusted the speedometer to agree with GPS on my cellphone. I would expect a speedometer kept at 60 mph to have an odometer reading of 60 miles every hour if everything is calibrated properly. Putting on a larger diameter tire will alter the speedometer/odometer unless the ECU is informed of the change. Going up in tire size (diameter) simply corrected the original error. That was not my intent in going up in tire size. I just lucked out. The old stock rims were trashed from winter travel.

I had a 2002 Chevy Duramax that came with 245 load range E tires. I went up to 265s and tried to get Chevy dealer to change the ECU to accomodate the change in tire size. Dealer showed me that the 2002's ECU could not be changed. I believe that changed in the 2003 models. I always tried to remember that at about 67mph I was actually doing 70 mph with the bigger tires.
