I have a handful of license plate bolts for Toyotas and I even stopped by the dealer

No chance any of these are working in the tailgate. it doesn’t appear the threads are stripped in EITHER of the top female holes in the tailgate 🤷‍♂️

I look at the bolts used on a Land Cruiser on the dealership’s showroom and the bolts I have look the same.

I pulled the mask ling tape off the holes so I know no one else mucked up the threads

wtf am I missing??

I’m not sure about the rear, I got bolts with the dealer frame on mine. What I did find interesting is the front and rear holes use a different size bolt.

I took the 2 bolts that came with the rear and walked into local hardware store and the guy handed me 2 more that matched perfectly that I used on front.

The plate bolts are M6 with a (standard) 1.0mm pitch. If Toyota doesn't have any, pretty much any European dealership will have it.
Thank you. I’m about to buy what you recommended for when my plate arrives. Should the length be 10 or 16mm?

10mm is more than enough. And up front, anything too long goes beyond the plate mount and digs into the bumper. Also misaligns the plate as it pushes against the bumper surface.

And more specifically, M6 x 1.0
