Hello,

Long time lurker here.

I took delivery of an ‘Invincible’ spec Land Cruiser last week.

Being an automotive geek, and also having looked through many posts and pictures on here, there are several differences between the US and UK vehicles that I have noticed and found interesting:


Firstly, and probably the most obvious one is that we have a straight Turbo Diesel engine (2.8 1GD-FTV), it has been returning 33-34 mpg so far. Considering the 250 has aerodynamic properties akin to a house brick, I am ok with this.

This means the vehicle has a fast idle button, and also a DPF burn off button.

Many have also pointed out the raised boot / trunk floor fiasco with the MHEV models - I am grateful to not have this.

At the first fuel stop, I noticed that the fuel door is cable operated. Also it has an Adblue / DEF tank. Several of the US spec pictures I have seen indicate an electronic fuel door release.

The US / LHD models have a drivers footrest that is about a mile wide, whereas the UK models have a small ledge that you can barely fit 3/4 of your shoe on.

My dog was slightly apprehensive at first but now enjoys trips in the LC.

Also:
  • Rear seat heating and cooling is standard fitment here. Not sure about US - I did see someone asking about retrofitting?
  • We are not allowed to have the cool colour changing front fog lamps because nanny state.










Similarity:

I did see a lot of folk complaining about the brakes squealing when reversing. I have experienced this also since day 1 and this is the disc after being parked overnight!

That was a great review of the UK variant, I wish the US could get the diesel engine!
 
Welcome. I would kill for that gas mileage....averaging 18mpg which is ok for a brick I guess. Highest I've seen was 22 on a road trip. My gas door is electronic and no heated / cooled rear seats.......bummer.

Sussex is a nice . I only asked because your first picture reminded me of where I was born and grew up. I’m originally from Oxfordshire a what was a small town back then called Bicester.

Gearbox runs fine for my taste in long range, in short range looks like gears tends to stay and no change until a considerable gas increase. I must recognize that I am novice in modern 4x4

I have not observed the steering wheel vibration. Only when the lane keep assist kicks but that is quite a pronounced vibration.

I have also noticed that in low range the first couple of gears are held onto until like 3000rpm.

Do you have the Invincible model in Spain or is it called something different?

I took delivery of my (black) Invincible last week and posted a pic on another forum here ('New from UK'). I absolutely love it. I've only done abut 300 miles fo far but it is so smooth and comfortable and so far I'm getting around 32-34 to the gallon so better than my Shogun which averaged around 30mpg. Reversing does wake the neighbours up because of the brake squeal :) . It does need a little tray to go in the centre coolbox as there's no cubby holes for loose change for toll bridges etc (we still have them in Oxfordshire!). There are too many bings and bongs from all the sensors but most of mine are now turned off otherwise it is a real pleasure to drive. I normally test drive cars before buying as I'm sure most people do so it was a bit of a gamble buying it blind but I have no regrets at all.
 
I echo your thoughts on the LC DrD - such a great vehicle but the lack of storage within easy reach of the driver is indeed a pain.

A good opportunity to test the wading capabilities in the current weather!

I have also noticed this button…

After reading the manual, it states that if you have a troublesome passenger up front, simply press and hold it. The roof will open and your passenger will quickly be dispatched.

US friends keep in mind UK gallons and US gallons are different - I am getting over 31 miles to the UK gallon

Welcome from sunny southern California and thank you for the explanation of the UK model changes. I like the fact that you do not have the big ugly diaper on the rear bumper for the hitch. But really, what's the eject button for?
